05 XXX power handling?

My hdc3's would just want to heat up after 10 min of full tilt or so

yeah I'm reconing my hdc3's too, and listen to alot of rap with em, so its very easy to go below tuning, and I think that was my main problem.

Got any suggestions on what i can do with that. My tuning was at 37.77 hz too, and will be giving each hdc3 2-2400 rms ...maybe options on the sub??

I was only being nice to it because I could smell it get hot after 10 minutes or so, Ive taken hour++ road trips with my MTX 12" 9500 cranked the entire time hittin hard, running 1.5x the tops rec. rms, I never knew what a sub smelled like getting hot till I got this XXX...and the XXX was my dream sub...

the worst part about it, I was swapping out my 12 for my 15 cuz I was getting bored with the 12 again even tho it sounds nice and clean, but now Im stuck with the 12 to be bored with.

EDIT:: Im still learning, Ive figured out the electrical part of it for the most part but I have a feeling Im refering the wrong melted part. I think its my tinsels that melted off...whichever ones go from the speaker wires >> terminals on the sub. those 6"ish little wires that beat against the cone all the time

Ah, it should be fine then, the XXX I was using had quad 1.4 coils but I don't remember what I had it wired to.

Too bad power handling isn't a tell tale sign of the quality of a subwoofer. XXX's were never designed/built to absorb gross amounts of power daily. Well, not by today's standards (1600 rms power handling was a big number back in 03-05). If a sub reaches full potential at 1800 watts in the recommended enclosure, why insist on putting 4k to it?
