Ok i have a 05 impala w/o bose w/o factory amp and w/o onstar i was told i need the GMOS-01 harness so i can retain the chimes so i got it and started the wiring process when i notice it has 4 rca cables and i also noticed that the RCA cables were the speaker wires together so i cut the RCA connectors off and connected the speakers wires to the right colors so so when i finished the wiring process i reconnected my battery and turn the car on and the aftermarktet radio(pioneer deh 2000mp) wont turn on i dont understand why and i just was working in my last car i checked all the car fuses and the fuse on the deck but no luck i wired all the colors except the Dimmer, illumination/dash light, mute, and its a blue/pink,green/purple. and this deck requires the ground to touch metal so that is also done but NO POWER.....What am i doing wrong

O and when it was all wired i tested and didnt hear any chimes

This is how i did the RCA cord

I have a 2000 impala and i was told by 3 different install'ers that i would lose my chimes no matter what harness i used. Also, my deck wouldnt turn on the 1st time it was installed too so the install guy told me he wasnt going to connect the remote or something like that.. so at the end he tells me my radio will only turn on and off when i manually do it... it will not turn on when i turn the ignition on and will not turn off when i take the keys out. and i lost the charms.. =/

Ok let me help both of you out....

If you are trying to put a radio in either one of these cars, you have to go with some type of peripheral device to mimic the factory radio...

The electrical architecture is based on GM's Class II databus network...in other words the computer tells the car when and when not to do some things.. .i.e. when to chime for key in ignition cylinder, when to turn the radio on with ignition, etc etc...

Technically the radio is not supposed to be removed from these vehicles...you would need a part number like a "GMCO" to interface correctly into the electrical system...that will provide you with your chimes, provide a 12V SWITCHED output and keep the electrical system in a "healthy" status...

and by removing those radios you are loosing more than just chimes.....

Safety chimes, and in the service manual they tell you to disable the airbag system before removing the radio...if that gives you a clue....

There was a shop in town who did a kids 03 Cavalier, and didn't use any type of interface...just a harness.....kid had a horrible front end collision....airbags failed to deploy...killed the passenger, seriously injured the driver.... airbags should have deployed at his speed and angle of impact...

Everything I have ever been show, or told says you can loose the airbags...by removing the radio....something to keep in mind...

i also been told this happens on Chevy's TB's..once you remove the factory Hu..you loose Airbags,chime..sucks i know....i have a TB 02'..

I have done this install before in an 03' Impala I used to have. the harness is huge. You have to start by threading it up the dash to your stereo loctaion. There is a "T" plug to wire the aftermarket radio into, then onto running the thick bundle of wires to the rear"trunk" of the car. That is where you re-plug the FACTORY stereo, thus giving back the brain to your chimes, airbags, etc......This is the easiest way I found and the most safe. If you d=go to a local stereo shop I have seen the harness cost upward of a hundred bucks, but I was lucky enough to have a friend with a wholesale book and I got it for 25. This is the only way I would reccomend doing an aftermarket install in this car. I know this works, and the only downfall is having the factory radio in the trunk, and having to run the thick bundlesd wire.

Hope that helps......

David
