02 Impala 3.4L V6 HO Alt. needed!

Just firstly like to say, 1st time posting, been looking for help everywhere, hoping I can find the help here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif . I currently own a 2002 chevy impala with a 3.4L V6. Has the stock 105 amp alternator installed, AD230 is the model. I have a kinetik hc1400 power cell under the hood and a kinetik hc2400 in the trunk. The system i'm going to put in this car will probably destroy it but hey, makes it all the more fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif . I've purchased the Memphis Car Audio MOJO MClass 4000watt amplifier (4000watts rms) and 2 memphis mojo dual 4 ohm 15" subwoofers (http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/products/amplifiers/the-mojo-mclass-amplifiers/). I've contacted Memphis through my local audio shop, regarding the amperage draw of this amplifier. They said that amp will draw approx between 350 and 450 amps! The memphis tech said I can get by, thats right get by, with a alternator that puts out 180 amps at idle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif ! Thats huge for a car this small. Currently the only solution I have found is a 220 amp alt that puts out 110 amps at idle (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY-IMPALA-3.4L-3.8L-HIGH-OUTPUT-ALTERNATOR-02-03-04_W0QQitemZ390060904456QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090622?IMSfp=TL0906221410002r15375). I've been told to possibly look for a custom alternator bracket, but have not came across one. And how does that even guarantee it will fit... Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

You are in the same predicament as me. I have a 2004 chevy impala 3.4 V6. As we speak I am waiting for a 260 amp alt from DC power alternators. Talk to Rob. I am not making any recommendations because I have not seen the alt yet. I'm just telling you what I did. It was a chore finding a H/O for the 3.4L engine, and I did get one from another company that I will not mention that is not putting out at idle as promised. It is only putting out about 40 amps at idle when the promise was 120 or so. In fact the original OEM 105 amp puts out more at idle. Anyway give Rob a call at 888-441-0144.

Ok thanks! And yes what a pain it has been to find anything for this engine...when I called ohio generators about it, he asked what engine i had..the 4.3 or up??..I replied 3.4 and he kinda said wow you got screwed! But i will give him a shout thanks! Any further help for both sabor and I would be appreciated.

Just got off the phone with DC Power and they just haven't got around to putting all the car alternators on their site yet. But yes its a 260 amp alternator at peak, and he said puts out roughly 145-150 amps at idle. Comes with the alternator AND bracket for $489.00 shipped! Very good price for fitting that much in a small alternator. Thanks so much sabor, hopes this helps someone else out later too!

no problem rockin.memphis. hope it works out for you. Would love to hear how that powerful memphis amp and subs work for you when you get it in.

kinda off subject, but i know how the impala has a positive and negative post located somewhere else, we brought my cousins in to a shop and they said not to hook the power to the battery itself and to the other terminals by the computer or whatever..so just curious how did u guys do that

^^^^ I have a 01 Impala, and there are auxiliary posts right before the battery, if that is what you are talking about. I have my Kicker ZX1200.1 runnin off the post and it is completely fine. That is, if thats what your talking about....

Wow, I've been through this too with my impala. So I will tell what I did through painstaking hit and miss and $$$. All I have is a pair of L5's 12" running at 2ohms off a Mmats 1600.2 amp. also have a jl audio 600/4 amp running my components and 6 x 9's. Anyway I had my positive cable hooked to the computer terminals. I went to a electrical shop to ask about h/o alts and big 3 etc. He told me the best thing I could do was hook the power cable directly to the battery itself. That was because the cables running off the computer terminal to the battery are very small. I have a 1/0 gauge power terminal so having it hooked to the computer will make the current have to try to squeeze through the tiny cables. Hooking it directly to the battery bypasses the small wires. whew.... hope this makes sense.

Also I do not do my own installations and had it all done by so called audio experts and am surprised they don't know this stuff.

Yes, that is $489 shipped directly to your door along with the bracket //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif . I work weekends at a local audio shop, we have a few people doing comps advertising us and when we hook up a H/O alternator we keep the current cabling from the alternator. We just add in a ring terminal with 0/1 gauge crimped and run it directly to the battery, normally via the top post. So both the old wiring that goes to the computer is hooked up and the new 0/1 ga line directly to the battery. We normally purchase a negative terminal top post and run a single run of 0/1 ga from the battery to the frame, helps ground the battery, stock wiring on the impala is like 8 ga. Then have a positive top post and run a run of 0/1 to the trunk. Remember if you run 0/1 ga wire for power...ground with 0/1 ga wire.
