00-up chevy owners

There wasn't an ignition wire in my '04 Trailblazer, so i just wired a 12awg line from the battery with a regular 10a fuse inline and then took that to a switch. Wired all my amp remote wires and the HU ignition to that switch so when i flip it on/off everything reacts accordingly.

Lost my door chime which I perfer actually, and the stereo is indepentent for the position of the truck's key, which i also perfer. I don't have to start my car or anything to start or stop the stereo.

my friend has an 04 monte carlo and the harness cost 100 dollars and everything still works even the steering controls
Do you know what harness he has? The only 2 i have found are the one crutchfield reccomends

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FcEfKfGA4fH/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=Metra+VT%2DGMRC%2D01&i=120GMRC01

and the relocation kit

but i don'tknow if either of thsoe will keep things like the low tire pressure indicator and oil change light on the message center working or not.

In my `03 Sierra, I used the following...

For wiring harness and retaining door chime, and retained accessory power, etc: Scosche DGM09.

Per PAC-AUDIO representative, this is the same thing as PAC's C2R-GM24. PAC builds the interface for Scosche.

For steering wheel controls: PAC SWI-PS

And then, of course, an antenna adapter.

All of this allowed me to install an 880PRS and keep everything working same as factory. No need to keep original factory stereo in car.

I don't think i need the steering wheel controls since my new hu will come with a remote. So if all i used was the door chime and antenna adapter thats all?

If you don't have steering wheel controls already on your steering wheel, then yes. That's all you'd need. I needed that SWI-PS, because my stock system had steering wheel controls, and I didn't want to lose their functionality. It would have been stupid to have nice controls on the steering wheel and not be able to use them. Now, if you have On-Star or something, you may need a slightly different model, but somewhere between PAC and Scosche you should be able to get it done. Also, if you call Scosche and tell them what you have, they can tell you exactly what you'll need.

ok thanks

Yes i do have steering wheel controls already but i didn't really want to spend $60+ to have them work. I have onstar to but it doesn't matter to me if that works or not because i will never use it.

Each to his own for sure. I've gotten so used to using my steering wheel controls, that I'd be irritated if they were gone. I find myself feeling for them whenever I'm driving my wife's Expedition.
