speaker wire

I see a few builds where they have to twist or braid there speaker wire. Is there really some sort of benefit to doing so? Or is keeping it how it comes good enough Vs.

I want to replace my stock speaker wires with 18 ga because I have a big *** spool of the ****, and I want to run 14 ga for my subs.
