The remote knob for my Kenwood KAC-9152D is a bass-boost. I have it connected but turned all the way down.

I've got the same model. Sounds like the internal amp is starving for power. Did you ever run a power cable from the head unit directly to the battery?

Looks like the right cable to me. Does your MP3 player have a lineout port along with a headphone port?

Not sure why. I just plugged mine in and it worked fine. Are you sure you got a stereo 1/8" convertor? Sometimes they aren't marked well.

You might need to adjust the volume on your MP3 player. I have to turn my iRiver almost all the way up.

It's not that there's too much bass. It sounds like I'm listening to a mono AM signal. There's just no life to the music.
