Not an expert by any means, but my guess is that there's a short in the switched power lead. You say all the memory functions stay, so the constant power should be good. I'd suggest running a temporary new power wire to test.

You could use a bluetooth adapter if you're using a cell phone. not only play your music, but you can use music apps as well as hands free phone calls. about $35 on eBay

Rather than glue, I'd recommend a grommet. The hole in the firewall will need to be determined by the grommet size, but I think a grommet is much safer in terms of not shorting out due to vibration.
