Hey guys I have always had kicker subs and I was wondering about trying out the MTX TS85 12. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge about these subs compared to a kicker l7 12. Any info would be appreciated.

Yes it will be in a vented enclosure.

The box build I had in mind is about 4.48 cubic. Thats about the only way i could fit both in my trunk. Do you think I should just build a 4 cubic box for just 1 15 then?

I am going to build a box for my wood shop project. Should i build like a 3-4 foot cubic box for 1 15 or build a 4 foot cubic for 2 15?

Will that be as loud though? I'm going for loud with it. I have 2 15 in l5s that I'm looking to trade for 2 12 in l7s if anyone is interested.Would I wanna get dual 2s or 4s with my amp?

Did you check your rca cables? Sometimes if your rca's are to close to your power wire it will cause the "whining".

I have a kenwood X1200M mono block amp that I have a 15 in l5 hooked up to it down to one ohm running 1200 watts to it. For some reason my amp keeps over heating and I can't figure out why. I have the sub hooked up correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

I agree that it is the box that is your problem. I had 2 12 in type rs bought them in a sealed box and they were ok but when I swtiched them to a ported box it was like having completely different subs. Them type r's need their air to breath.

Oh. Well the comps are only entry level. The L7s and Solo X's get pretty nasty with the right setup. I have had 4 different sets of l7s and I have loved every set. Only problem I had with my first set was they were old. Like 03's or so. And back then they had a lot of problems with the tinsel...

What do you mean? What did you learn about kicker if you care to share? And I'm looking to get L7s. Just because Kicker is really all I have owned and I really like them for getting nasty loud.
