Does the left just think you can make everything better by doing nothing? The country is in the hole thanks to Democratic History with the economy and Trump is doing something about it. Tariffs bring in more good than they do harm over time. So we are paying pennies more on the dollar now, is the left saying we suddenly can't afford a few pennies more on the dollar?

That numbers don't jibe. The economy has been historically better under Democrats for over 75 years, and the debt has grown more under the GOP per term than Dems.

Tariffs are simply an additional tax that we pay on the imported goods we buy.
WE pay them, no matter what name is tacked on to them.

Here's the real math of Trump's "$2,000 to everyone" plan, that he claims will be "paid for" by tariffs collected from each American, with the leftovers "paying off national debt".

Additional taxes collected from Americans in the form of tariffs, 2025: $195 Billion
Number of Americans: ~345 Million.

Assuming only HALF of the "everyone" gets the check (due to their income or whatever reason), that's a payout of $345 Billion.
That's $150 Billion more than the tariffs collected from Americans.

1. What was the benefit of collecting a tax that would be given back with a 100% match by the gov't?
2. Where does the additional $150 Billion come from, assuming only HALF of "everyone" gets a check?
3. How will there be leftover money to pay down debt, if they are refunding almost double what was paid in?

Now if 3/4 of "everyone gets the check, we're talking $517 Billion. That's $322 Billion more than was taken in.

Either Trump has no idea how many people live in the US, has no idea how to do simple multiplication, or just spouts nonsense - knowing that his followers will gobble it up without any due diligence or critical thinking.
Putting almost anything he says to the simplest tests of logic, it falls apart.

It would help if the dollar wasn't a fiat currency. lol I mean of course it's used like Monopoly money to manipulate us all. The gov can print money to pay for stuff... instead of being fiscally responsible.

But they also HAVE to, otherwise the value of an individual dollar would be like a bitcoin that went from $.08 in 2010, to $95,000 today.

Just looking at the growth of currency in the past 10 years, that would mean a dollar bill would buy you about $67 of stuff in current pricing.
A penny would pay for a 6-pack of Coors light. You wouldn't be able to buy an individual item that costs less (in current dollars) than about $6.70

That'd be a problem.

Yes, it's all made up. That's the problem.

Money has always been about human energy and controlling it:

"During a meeting with Tesla shareholders, Elon Musk stated that traditional money could disappear in the future, suggesting that the value of goods and services could be assessed based on energy, not money. Musk claimed that, in the future, there could be a measurement of value in watts, exemplifying with electric energy."

I don't think there is one. We're too far gone
Eureka!
We were street rats drinking from the hose once upon a time.
Who cares what our "reps/senators" preach they're too busy being a fraud and tapdancing to avoid criticism. They all need to go... where?... and how?... anywhere other than the donor retreats and power circles.
We're not too far gone, others may be.
Some of us live in reality

Tariffs are the first time I've seen businesses eat taxes. Used to be taxing businesses was cool, until Trump actually did it. Now tariffs are the end of the world.
