That numbers don't jibe. The economy has been historically better under Democrats for over 75 years, and the debt has grown more under the GOP per term than Dems. Tariffs are simply an additional tax that we pay on the imported goods we buy. WE pay them, no matter what name is tacked on to them. Here's the real math of Trump's "$2,000 to everyone" plan, that he claims will be "paid for" by tariffs collected from each American, with the leftovers "paying off national debt". Additional taxes collected from Americans in the form of tariffs, 2025: $195 Billion Number of Americans: ~345 Million. Assuming only HALF of the "everyone" gets the check (due to their income or whatever reason), that's a payout of $345 Billion. That's $150 Billion more than the tariffs collected from Americans. 1. What was the benefit of collecting a tax that would be given back with a 100% match by the gov't? 2. Where does the additional $150 Billion come from, assuming only HALF of "everyone" gets a check? 3. How will there be leftover money to pay down debt, if they are refunding almost double what was paid in? Now if 3/4 of "everyone gets the check, we're talking $517 Billion. That's $322 Billion more than was taken in. Either Trump has no idea how many people live in the US, has no idea how to do simple multiplication, or just spouts nonsense - knowing that his followers will gobble it up without any due diligence or critical thinking. Putting almost anything he says to the simplest tests of logic, it falls apart.
