Back up camera installation help. Video display issues.

I have a 2010 Cadillac CTS and I’m installing a back up camera into a aftermarket head unit.
I’ve got it all installed and working except the view is really distorted when backing up.
I ran the rca cable along the passenger side of the car with the cable that came with the camera.
Is there a better location or side to run the cable to avoid the video feedback?
Get a better cable??

Anyone install one on this style car?

Make sure that there is no cellophane cover on the lens. Clean the lens. If the problem persist, you may need another camera.

It’s not a camera issue. It’s the video cable too close to a power source. I have two cameras and both do the same thing.

To be fair, it sounded like you found the problem = the RCA cable is the issue as you said in post #3.

Not sure how you determined the cable is the problem for sure. There are so many different backup cameras out there, it is hard to say, I don't even know the model to skim the manual if online.

I suppose it could be a cable not shielded very well if it’s cheap, maybe try a different cable, or relocate it as it is running to see if the noise goes away.

Also perhaps could be a ground issue of some sort, maybe a ground loop with the cameras ground wire at rear of vehicle and the RCA shield ground at the head unit. If the camera doesn’t pull much power, it may ground fine through just the RCA cables so there is zero ground loop, but I suppose this could damage some head units depending how the RCA shields are grounded internally if the camera draws too much power, though this would avoid a second ground which could possibly cause a noise issue.

Maybe hookup one camera at a time to see if problem goes away.

Otherwise see if you can contact the camera manufacturer for suggestions.

I guess I didn’t put in enough information on my original post.
I replaced the old camera and cable on the aftermarket system I installed. I first changed the camera, same problem. I then changed the cable and the same issue was present.
The grounding is correct and solid. The only thing I can compare this to is engine hum. Bitd you woujd get engine hum when you ran your rca cables to close to power.

Try running a video cable over the top of the car for testing. If the problem persists, then routing is not the issue.

Ya that was my plan. I was just checking to see if anyone had installed one on this style of car and to see where they ran it.

I thought you were telling us that you found out the problem, and ran your cable on the opposite side of the car, away from the power cable.

No I was asking if anyone in here has installed a aftermarket camera on a similar car and how/where did they run the wiring.
