Current events discussion

I've specifically pointed to the lack of brush clearing and fire breaks numerous times. Simply because you ignore a fact doesn't mean I didn't bring it up.
My apologies. I thought prescribed fires was how they did the brush clearing you are referring to.

Fire breaks (firebreaks?): Are you under the impression that fire breaks (usually a maximum of 60' apart, but average 20-30 feet) would stop the fire from moving in 80-100MPH winds? This video shows the effects of wind on burning trees. I'm thinking even a 120 foot firebreak might not be enough:
Thoughts?
It's great that CalFire has hired people and spent money. But if that doesn't translate into clearing brush and making fire breaks then all that is is proof of the mismanagement I referred to? I'm more interested in accomplishments than blowing money and hiring incompetent people to meet DEI quotas.
I guess this is not the same fire chief that provided consultation to Old_Slapper, but it speaks to Elon Musk's claims that you are parroting:
“All of the brush clearance, fuel breaks — they’re very effective on what we would consider a normal day,” said Chief Brian Fennessy of the Orange County Fire Authority. “But what you’re talking about here is probably less than 1% of all the fires that we respond to in Southern California.”
The Palisades fire ignited Jan. 7 amid hurricane-force winds, with gusts of up to 100 mph recorded in some areas.
You could have put a 10-lane freeway in front of that fire and it would not have slowed it one bit,” Fennessy said."

But I'm sure he's just a Democrat who is afraid of losing his job, and it making up stories to help Newsom
Right?
Same with this guy:
Max Moritz, a cooperative extension wildfire specialist at UC Santa Barbara:
Given the weather conditions, Moritz is skeptical that more landscape-level brush clearance would have done much to slow the fire’s initial spread. He also noted that landscape-level brush management is distinct from brush clearance around individual homes, which is typically the responsibility of the property owner and can help give firefighters opportunities to protect structures."

And this: "Several experts noted that the intense gusts lofted embers miles from the fire front, essentially spreading flames through the air — not by brush."
They obviously didn't consult with Old_Slapper, who meets with the mayor and has the "inside" scoop on the situation.

That is not a real video. That is a poorly edited attempt at one. Probably done on a computer powered by the Intel Celeron 266 processor that was based on the Pentium II and used in less expensive computers of the day by a middle school drop out.

Wait, so that area of Cali should not clear brush and build fire breaks because of the high Santa Ana winds? What happens if fire starts when there aren't Santa Ana winds??? Seriously, engage a few more brain cells than Newsom. Stop being an apologist for one of the biggest F-ups in Cali history.

The real crap end of this is now the loony libs who got burnt out by poor policy and management will bring that crap to Arizona, Colorado and Montana when they migrate there.

I don't know if you guys are following the mass arrests ICE is making. Looks like ICE is targeting criminals, gangsters and s3x offenders. But Trump is the misogynist who is going to usher in the age of The Handsmaid's Tale and Biden is the guy who was looking out for women. Amazing how scrambled some people's brains are.

Trump could solve world hunger and be vilified for it...

I just hope that when this is all over we will be better off than the last 4 years, be energy independent, not be at war, have lower cost of goods, get along with Democrats and so on.

You're spinning off into a false dichotomy.

You said the lack of fire breaks is what made this fire so bad, and that Newsom failed by not having enough fire breaks. Professionals have said that firebreaks as wide as a 10-lane highway would not have helped IN THIS FIRE.

If you're engaging any of your brain cells, how do you come to the conclusion that CA shouldn't clear brush? Are you one of the guys who says that since a person died in a car accident while wearing a seatbelt (or maybe even trapped by one) that nobody should wear seatbelts?

The "loony libs" that are paying the bills for the "welfare conservatives".

So, what did the Republican governor prior to Newsom do that was such a great boost to the ability of California cities to fight wildfires, aside from his failing to prevent over 3,000,000 acres from burning, over 6,000 structures from being destroyed, and ~50 people being killed by wildfires?
