Your post is definitive proof that you have no understanding of what you read, or of the meaning of "quote" and "verbatim".

The words you quoted out of my sentence are indeed a VERBATIM QUOTE as they meet all of the requirements.
They are word for word, and use the exact same verbiage (wording or diction) as was in the original sentence.
If you had changed it to "should head back" or "should go to" or "should run back" or similar, then it would not be verbatim and also not a valid quote due to words being changed.

With a partial sentence quote, do not use a comma, and do not capitalize the first word inside the quotation marks.
  • Original quote: “No matter what it takes, I'll finish clown school.”
  • Partial quote: Gilbert said that he would finish clown school “no matter what it takes."
"no matter what it takes" is a verbatim quote of what Gilbert said.
It is word-for-word, and it is the same wording or diction (verbiage).

Stop trying to score "gotcha'" moments. It just doesn't work when you don't know what you are talking about.
And I'm sure you'll say I'm wrong "because Thxone says so", so go and ask someone who majored in English.
Heck, Jimi is the most well-written guy in the group by far, and he seems to be quite neutral.

Ask him what he thinks of your quote of my words, and your understanding of "quote", "verbatim", etc.
How did I know your ignorant asss would argue still. I am not saying you are wrong "because I said so" I am saying you are wrong because the definition says you are wrong. The fact that you are saying the words I quoted are verbatim means you do not understand or refuse to accept the DEFINITION of verbatim. The one that says it needs to be quoted AS IT WAS WRITTEN IN ITS ENTIRETY. You stupid dumb fuck!! Fuck you, fuck your spins you arrogant wannabe know-it-all. Eat many many more diicks you waste of space. Partial quotes are not fucking verbatim. Jesus Fucking Christ all to hell.

As I said before, you are showing that you don't even understand the concepts you are arguing.
And you should know this, but simply stomping your feet petulantly like a little child, yelling that you are right, and playing tough guy by saying "Fuck" (a verbatim quote from your post, btw) over and over and over does not make you correct.

Verbatim-
adverb
in exactly the same words as were used originally.
"subjects were instructed to recall the passage verbatim"
adjective
copied, quoted, or translated in exactly the same words as were used originally.

This does NOT mean that every single word surrounding the quoted words must be included.
The example regarding Gilbert should have made this clear for you.

Maybe another example will help?
This is a VERBATIM QUOTE from William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night:
"some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them"

Note that it is enclosed by quotation marks. Notice the beginning is not capitalized in order to show it is not a complete sentence. Notice that it is word-for-word. Not a single word has been altered. The verbiage is identical to the original. It is VERBATIM.
A verbatim quote does not require you to post very single word of the text that the quote is derived from.

The original sentence: "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them."
The verbatim quote: "some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them"

The play has 19,387 words in it. If you think you have to quote the entire play for any quote of the words therein it to be VERBATIM, you are sadly confused about writing in English. And you have proved that.

Shut up, you're stupid.

VERBATIM -
Verbatim is a term that is used when quoting something word for word, using exactly the same verbiage that was used originally. When quoting something verbatim there is no room for interpretation, the passage is an exact replica of the original passage.

Precisely.
And here is a VERBATIM QUOTE from your post above:
"the passage is an exact replica of the original passage"
It is word for word. It is within quotes. It does not start with a capital letter in order to show it is not a complete sentence.
The verbaige has not been changed. The words are not an interpretation of the original words.

A vebatim quote of words from your posts does NOT require that I post every single word from the post.
Get someone to help you if you are still confused. Maybe you could take an online remedial class in English.

Shut up, You're stupid.

Is the the exact same sentence?

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them."
"some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them"

You claim the second is verbatim.

You claim the second is verbatim.
The second is a VERBATIM QUOTE.
I did not say it is a VERBATIM QUOTE OF THE WHOLE SENTENCE.
I did not say it is a VERBATIM QUOTE OF THE WHOLE PLAY.
It is simply a VERBATIM QUOTE.
The words within quotation marks are VERBATIM and QUOTED.
You should have learned this long before age 48.

Seriously, shut up, you're stupid and you keep reinforcing that stupidity.

They aren't verbatim quotes you brainless oaf. They are just quotes.

I am 49.

OK. You should have learned this long before you turned 49.

But I guess you will just continue to refuse to learn, and insist that you are correct, but all English textbooks that reference quotation, and even dictionary definitions of "quote" and "verbatim" are wrong.
You know more about English and the written word than every professor out there.

Just like you know more about anatomy than every professor and medical doctor out there.

It is so because Thxone SAYS it is so.
Like a petulant child.

Hey dummy, just because you can read doesn't mean you understand what you read. You keep proving that. Just leave it alone now. I already think you are stupid. How much more stupid do you want to be?

Ahhhh, "leave it alone now" (another verbatim quote of your words).

Leave it alone now, because you got yourself buried to the point of no return in being incorrect.
You have been irrefutably proved to be wrong, but there is no turning back. You might get called a "flip-flopper", which is anathema to being a hardcore right-winger such as yourself.

I am so glad I don't have your affliction. Rock on little buddy.

Why don’t you go eat a bag of shit, you stupid f*ck. Nobody here likes you, and we’re tired of your bullshit. F*ck off and go ruin some other forum or, better yet, just don’t join one at all. You’re just a toxic dimwit with no future and only hatred inside, so f*ck off to elsewhere.
