Memphis capaciter exploded

So recently I bought a Memphis prx1000.1 and installed it to 2 rockfordfosgate r1s'. Both svc and 150rms 4ohm. I wired them to a 2ohm load to the amp and I turned my truck on and everything was fine (radio was off so the amp wasn't turned on yet) I turned on my radio and the amp glowed with he leds' and then 10 sec later a capacitor blew in the amp. I am wondering as to what have may caused this. Some people have told me it could either be faulty or there's an amperage difference with my battery. I'm new so I'm not sure what everything means completely.

So you're saying a country who can only make advances through lying, cheating and stealing isn't beneath you and you are completely complacent with that and see nothing wrong at all with the picture?

I've been all over the world in situations where I could have easily not made it home and during those times I have seen knock offs, unauthorized logos, and even products with stolen technology in them. I try to avoid products from places I perceive to offer poor performance, designs and execution of build quality. However, I think you could have used a different term to describe the group of people you were alluding to. The particular term you used is considered a slur.

To the OP: Have someone knowledgeable take a look at your audio system installation to make sure there wasn't an error made during installation. I would then have the amplifier uninstalled and sent in for repair. If its determined to be a build quality issue it could be covered under warranty (if the amp is still under warranty). If out of warranty you'll need to have someone repair it or replace it with a different amp.

I do not believe this is user error. Amp is either old and the cap failed from age or it was just a dud from the factory. This is the sort of thing a warranty should cover if this is new.

No, I am saying the word you used to describe the Chinese is a racist slur. Thats all

Now if you would have said "Another case of bad quality control from a Chinese build house".

Don't get me wrong. Everyone at some time in their life has used a derogatory racist slur. But I am 51 years old and have learned from my mistakes.

When I saw your original post I thought, "Maybe he's having a bad day". We all have those. Maybe you had a slip of the tongue and would retract the original slur. However, you doubled down on your behavior. All of the terms you used in your response could very easily apply to the USA. (lying, cheating and stealing) Why would anyone be beneath you?

Did you slowly charge the Cap prior to installing it?

So that amp would have been wired up to 700w @ 2 ohms and you had (2) 150w subs, with a cap? Why did you even use a cap? Those subs are 150w RMS (each, they are probably 300w max). So your amp was wired up as 700w rms @ 2ohms, and wired to two speakers that combined were 300w rms and probably 600w Max, then you had a cap in there. I think I see the problem, I just don't know why.

That or, how did you hook it up, and originally charge it?

I highly doubt the OP is coming back.

That said, he never said he installed a capacitor, rather, one inside the amp blew after he hooked it up and powered it on 10 seconds later.

I’d chalk it up to an electronic item failing as they sometimes do, perhaps a manufacturing defect / shouldn't have passed QC, add cheaply made quality to it which doesn’t help, or something we may never know since we weren’t there to inspect the wiring.

Even hypothetically, if he had an external capacitor installed, that would not blow up based on powering the amp up. No amperage difference, none of that. You will see sparks if you charge or discharge one without a resistor, but very unlikely to blow one up unless wiring it backwards. Tons of people charged them by pulsing the power cables to the battery or just installing a fuse, not the proper way to do it and I do not recommend that at all, but never seen any failures.

At any rate, I agree with those that said it was likely a dud from the factory, a random failure, or old and the caps were past their life span. If it's a new amp, of course just warranty it.

Oh, just for future reference. Put $800 OBO, or you will only get that $600, or less. ;)
