Alt for 13,000 watts

Hello everyone.

Im purchasing a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT that comes with a stock alternator putting out 220A. The stereo I’m planning on is 3 SSA evil 15”subs with 1 crescendo bc 13k amp. I know I’ll need to upgrade the electrical. They do make a HO alt for my Jeep at 320A. Would this be sufficient to run the electrical, the stock stereo ( HK 19 speaks and amp( rated at 825w ) and the subs if I add a second battery?

Thanks for your input.

Thank you. What is the rule of thumb forAmps per watts?

There isn't one. Your current needs will depend on quite a few factors. In your case 13k of speaker power would equate to roughly 1100 amps of current draw after efficiency losses. You need 4 300a alternators and some supercaps to provide enough power, or you need a very large battery bank and 2-300a alternators.

You can either feed your amp with alternator power or feed your amp with battery power. What route you choose depends on how you intend to play and how long you intend to play.

Hmmm, ok. That might be more than what I actually want.

So this is for a daily driver, well I work from home so it’s more like a grocery getter. ( a toy I guess ) I like to play my music at full tilt. My current set up is 2 Memphis audio mojo 15. 1k rms 2k peak with a bc 3500w amp. It sounds good in the car, but what I’m after if shaking the ground loud.

Is that possible on 2 15” evils at rms ( about 8k watts) with the right box build and tune?

thanks again and sorry about my lack of knowledge.

There is a very large difference between 2k and 8k. 2k can be done with mostly stock electrical. Above 3k and you start needing alternators, above 5k and you need battery banks/more than one alternator. You also need alot of space and vehicle modification to support that kind of power/sound pressure level.

Sit down and think about what you really want. "shaking the ground loud" is not a feasible goal unless you have a spare $20,000 to throw around.

Good point Matt. The majority of my build cash is going to the performance part of the Jeep. Supercharger, cam, exhaust, intake etc. leaves me with about 7-8 for the stereo.

OK, so set your budget to 7k.

Now you need to decide on what kind of loud you want to be. Getting loud at 50hz is alot eaiser than loud at 30hz. Do you want things to sound good or do you just care about being obnoxiously loud?

I've got 5k on tap for a pair of 18's. Never metered it, and it's not technically finished yet, but I'm happy with it. It plays loud and low, and that's what I want. I've spent roughly $3500 on my substage and amp getting things where they are. I need another 500ish to finish things up.

For once in my life I’d like to have stupid loud.

Stupid loud breaks ****. You okay with that? :ROFLMAO:

Not in the SRT

Then you aren't going for stupid loud. You start flexing the sunroof rails at 120db(using a Dayton AMM 1 mic, not the most accurate). I'm probably in the 130s down in the 20-30hz range and I've bent my trunk hinges already.

Stupid loud will bend and break things, if you aren't OK with that then stick with a pair of low-power 10's or 12's and make it sound good.
