Hello,

I have a 2012 Nissan Xterra with the base head unit with Single CD. I wanted to have MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity so I recently installed a JVC KW-R930BTS. The radio works great BUT, I am unable to get my Galaxy S9 to pair with the head unit. They SEE each other but always get a could not pair to this device on my phone. I've never had an issue with anything else pairing to it and can't figure out the issue. I've tried the following:

1. Initialized Bluetooth in Head unit.
2. Installed latest firmware to head unit.
3. Deleted several existing pairings from Cell phone
4. Factory reset Head Unit
5. Made sure phone has latest (available) software from T-mobile.
6. Turned off wifi during pairing
7. Of course restarted phone several times.
8. Even though radio is new, made sure there were no devices listed in the Bluetooth pairings (JVC tech Support)

Not sure where else to go from here? Has anyone had similar experiences? Any ideas on what to try? Could the unit be incompatible?

Sounds a compatibility issue due to the phone being new. Tell JVC you're going to return the unit unless they come out with firmware that is patched to work with the S9. I'd bet money they did 0 testing with that unit and the s9

Just to confirm, you are pressing the confirm button on both the phone and the headunit when it comes up with the "pairing..." dialogue?

Does your phone bluetooth pair with other devices properly?

For your head unit JVC KW-R930BTS

Pair and connect a Bluetooth device for the first time:

1. Press to turn on the unit.

2. Search and select “KW-R9BTS”/“KW-X8BTS”/“KW-SX8BTS” on the Bluetooth device. “BT PAIRING” flashes on the display.• For some Bluetooth devices, you may need to enter the Personal Identification Number (PIN) code immediately after searching.

3. Perform (A) or (B) depending on what appears on the display. For some Bluetooth devices, pairing sequence may vary from the steps described below.(A) “[Device Name]” “XXXXXX” “VOL – YES” “BACK – NO” “XXXXXX” is a 6-digit passkey randomly generated during each pairing. Ensure that the passkeys appear on the unit and Bluetooth device are the same. Press the volume knob to confirm the passkey. Operate the Bluetooth device to confirm the passkey.(B) “[Device Name]” “VOL – YES” “BACK – NO” Press the volume knob to start pairing.

• If “PAIRING” “PIN 0000” scrolls on the display, enter the PIN code “0000” into the Bluetooth device. You can change to a desired PIN code before pairing. ( 19)• If only “PAIRING” appears, operate the Bluetooth device to confirm pairing.“PAIRING COMPLETED” appears when pairing is completed and “” will light up when the Bluetooth connection is established.• This unit supports Secure Simple Pairing (SSP).• Up to five devices can be registered (paired) in total.• Once the pairing is completed, the Bluetooth device will remain registered in the unit even if you reset the unit. To delete the paired device, 19, [DEVICE DELETE].• A maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio device can be connected at any time. However, while in BT AUDIO source, you can connect to five Bluetooth audio devices and switch between these five devices. ( 20)• Some Bluetooth devices may not automatically connect to the unit after pairing. Connect the device to the unit manually.•

Yep and yep.

i will try the threat to JVC. Hopefully they will respond within the year.

It states that even after a reset, the head unit will still remember it's previously connected devices... did you double check that the head unit isn't full of connected devices? If so... I am at a loss.
Yes I initialized the bluetooth stack several time just to make sure there were no connected devices.

Ok. Here's an update. Sorry for the delay. I was able to successfully connect an LG v40 ThinQ (Android) AND an iPhone 7 to the headunit. So At this poit i believe it to be either an issue with the Samsung S9 OR T-Mobile's implememntation of the S9. Who is responsible for the Bluetooth compatibility of the phone? Is it Samsung or T-Mobile's Software?

Actually... I don't know. With the exception of the iPhone 7 being BT 4.2, all the other phones are BT 5.0.
