Your "loud" volume?

80/80 bishes! Dead-head Eclipse 8053 FTMFWYes, I've put a scope on it at 80 and she's clean. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I second his findings.... I had a 8443 (same thing but with a build in defeatable amp and no balanced output ie, not capable of 16v, only 8v preout), and I could turn it all the way up and was 100% clean.

The head unit I use now I can turn up to around -10... scale goes from -80 to +6

Normal listening for me is usually -20

I configured my HU to create 3 custom Presets.

1) For Normal Listening/SQ (so to speak), I'll have it around 20

2) Highway Blasting/Increased Bass, I'll have it on 30

3) Pure SPL Preset for show-off or for the people who pull up next to me blasting their music louder than mine, I'll have it on 25 (with Bass on max, Subwoofer on max)

I have found with most of my alpine decks 23-24/35 is the max I prefer.
Currently setting everything at max 24 with my 9887, in my experience I start getting clipping beyond that, but I dont have a scope to know for sure.

Dont need it to go beyond that anyways, just starts tearing apart my rear fill and I have my gains usually almost all the way down with this deck as well due to the voltage at the amps.
hmm, wonder if something is wrong with mine. I remember reading a while back where someone was complaining about needing to crank their gains big time with their 9887. For me I think the gains on my Sundowns are at around 75-80% or so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif When I first set it up I was expecting to turn them up a quarter and be good but seemed I had to crank them up before I started to hear anything bad and then just backed them down a bit.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I do want to reset them at some point though since I set them on some random music playing at volume 16. Sounded loud at the time lol (night time with the truck off.) I have cranked it up to 32 for a short period of time and didn't hear anything bad, but don't got over 20-22 for loud listening due to my smelly speakers at over 24.

Make sure your sub level is turned up. 9887 has 4v pre-outs.....

56/62

maybe 57 on some songs, but i don't push it that hard because i don't want to blow anything up. I wonder if i should turn my gain up a bit on my amp since i am using 90% volume on the HU though?

Yea I haven't had subs installed up until yesterday, but its pretty ghetto fab while I wait for the new Mags to ever arrive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif But currently the sub level is up to 15 and they aren't much to speak of anyways only a small pair of 8's in a sealed box wired to 4ohms on the 1500d so if the gains were right each would be getting 200w. But for the comp amp I got the gain cranked up to 80% or so. Does the sub level affect the mid/high pre-outs as well? I mean everything seems to be working just fine and I don't get any distortion but I never expected to have to turn the gains up so high when the deck has 4v pre outs, maybe if it had standard 2v or so. oh well.

My guess is something is wrong. Sub level shouldnt affect your front/rear pre-outs. I have a kenwood 5v preout deck and I ran my sundown with the gain down around 30% at most. My frontstage amp is even lower.

That said I've owned some advertised 4v preout decks where I had to crank the gains on my amps...assuming their 4v preout must be full blast with every setting/boost/eq cranked full tilt.

Thats what I am thinking is the deal with my 9887 or something. Guess its time to use that search feature to test the RCA voltage to the amps and what grampi did with his 9887 to get it fixed. Then again as long as it ain't clipping or distorting the gain being up isn't a bad thing but I would rather know all my stuff is 100%

Currently they are set by ear when the HU was on volume 16 (seemed loud at the time lol) and I have played up to 32 without any distortion/clipping, but got some stinky speakers after a few minutes. Oh well I got plenty of tuning I have to do in the future anyways, just one more knob to fiddle with.

No the sub level wont affect the other pre-outs. How do you have your eq and everything setup? That might have something to do with it.

I havent messed with the other pre-outs really and setting the gain on any of my other amps off of them, since I dont have anything in my car at the moment. But, with my KX2500 in back I had the gain around 1/4 of the way up, and I was making all my power. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

However, with my amp on my fronts I had the gain just over 1/2 iirc, but that was just set by ear at the time.

Who knows man, I'm from the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" camp. If your amps are doin power cleanly, who cares where the gains are //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i tested my alpine with a dmm once, never oscope and never ran it this high normally so i dont know for sure.. but according to specs it clips at 2.0 volts and it reads 1.9 at level 30-35.. my sony (sigh) home amp goes to 60 out of 75 before clipping
