I agree. I'm just pointing out the major aspects of what they're "supposed" to be taxing us for the service(s).Again, government does a lot more than provide firefighters and policemen and roads.
In Oregon, the local government cries about needing money for education. The public pays higher taxes. Next year, more money for schools. It never ends....
Again, I agree. However, companies still do sell diseased food and poisonous drugs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I know a civil rights lawyer that spends a lot of time suing various food and drug companies. He even "won" $12,000 for supposedly finding a bug in a piece of candy!Unless you think companies selling diseased food and poisonous drugs is a right that should be protected. Unless you think companies forcing workers to work 80 hour weeks while making below the poverty level is a right that should be protected.
They keep them from falling too low through welfare and other forms of low budget social security. They also keep the middle class poor (small business taxes, ~30%) and the upper class tax free. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifYou talk about knowing about the lowest common denominator, but don't realize that the government is the one that keeps the lowest common denominator from falling too low.
That's one of the only things I like about Republicans. The true/real republicans don't believe in big government and overtaxing.
For the reasons someone posted above. If you are hit by someone who doesn't obey the laws by carrying insurance and a license to drive. They NEED to pass a basic exam, In ENGLISH, because our roads and signs are not written in any other languages. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifHow does an illegal immigrant voting or driving make you feel unsafe? Not that both of those claims aren't enormous bullshit anyway, but just the principle. Are you that bigoted? Are you that xenophobic? Are you that racist?
I'm not racist. I've been to Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, and a few other places....I enjoy other people's cultures and leave them alone. I don't leave my influence in their country and impose my beliefs on them. In fact, I've made a lot of friends while traveling.
A lot of people who listen to worldwide news like the BBC, etc think we are under a total police state..... You know what? They're right.
I experienced more freedom in Germany, Mexico and the Netherlands than any place in the US. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
I'm not saying that we need to be like them by a long shot! Just that we are not as "free" as everyone would like to think we are!
Government protection for consumers is a good thing, for sure. The FTC and the DOJ help. The problem is with the high amount of bogus, fraudulent and otherwise low-quality goods that enter our ports. If we had more Quality Control, we wouldn't have half of the problems with our goods that we have today. Attention to detail and pride in ones workmanship will result in a more quality product, regardless of price. (sometimes even cheaper!)What other of your rights is the government infringing? Government regulates business from extorting consumers. How is that a bad thing? You seem pretty smart so I'm hoping that you aren't stupid enough to believe in free market principles or some other farce.
