Yes in hindsight we know they were wrong. But at the time it was not possible for that to be proven false, therefore at the time it was a fact.

Maybe I am trolling a bit, but that doesn't make what I'm saying wrong. You hit the nail on the head when you said that's "just what they thought." That's exactly what fact is, it's not what can be proven or what is absolutely correct, it's just what everyone thinks is correct.

Incorrect. You have to prove fact.
That's why religion is a belief and not a fact.

There's a lot of things considered fact that cannot be proven. Take the law of gravity as an example. It cannot be proven, it can be demonstrated, but it cannot be proven that our definition of what gravity is and how it works is correct.

It's not that hard to imagine that some of our base knowledge and "ideas" about science right now could be proven incorrect in the future.
