dude my computer is like an 01 or 02 gateway. it came with the 256 ram and 40 gigs which filled up mighty quick.
that sucks. unreal how fast technology moves. you can get a pretty decent pc with a large hd and alot of ram for 300-400 bucks. it's an option.

Of course your SEVEN YEAR OLD computer can't play new games retard. Computers are completely obsolete within two years of purchase. Within 6 months if you buy a budget piece of crap.

Well, not that quick ... My old computer (circa 2004) can still play some new games (AMD AthlonXP 2500+ @ 2.26 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, GeForce 7600 GT), though the GPU has been upgraded since it was built.

Of course, I've had a few computers since then and my latest has no trouble whatsoever playing anything.

If your computer is over 3 years old, it is either going to require MAJOR upgrades or replacement to keep up w/ modern games. At 7 years, I'd say complete replacement is the only option worth considering.

What game(s) are you trying to play and what are your computer's specs ?

i just bought a game not to long ago and it plays fine. im pretty much thinkin about buying a new tower. any suggestions prefferably in the low cost range.
If you're overclocking, Pentium Dual Core E2200 + Decent CPU cooler + P35 motherboard (Gigabyte DS3L recommended) + 2 GB of PC2-6400 RAM + ATI HD 3850 256 MB + 500 GB HDD = ~$475 (not including case, power supply, optical drive, or operating system)
If you're not overclocking, Athlon X2 5600+ + Gigabyte 780g motherboard + 2 GB of RAM PC2-5300 RAM + ATI HD 3850 256 MB + 500 GB HDD = ~$470 (not including case, power supply, optical drive, or operating system)

Total system cost for either one would be approximately $700 w/ everything. You can shave a few dollars off in the CPU department (~$15 for the E2160 or ~$32 for the 5000+), the HDD department (~$15 for a 320 GB), and case (I assumed the Antec Sonata III (~$100) which includes a very nice 500W PSU) but I wouldn't recommend cutting corners on the GPU (next step down is the 8600 GTS, which doesn't save much and is a MASSIVE drop in performance), motherboard, or power supply (shouldn't have a negative effect on performance, but may have a drastic effect on long-term reliability).
