YIKES!! "volts" on the Dash!!!!

what does it mean if "volts" show up on the dash. I know it means i am getting huge voltage drops, but what does it technically mean. The car is a 98 Lumina LTZ...

assuming it's insufficient/low voltage so i'd say under 11volts...battery/alt could be going bad, could be voltage regulator, etc.

yea id reccomend taking it either to a mechanic and checking or to a dealer and asking them what it means

well, my alternator is charging 14.1v @ idle. batteries show up fine at a float charge of 12.62v.... I'm guessing I am getting huge voltage drops...

i was hoping one of you guys had a similar problem. My car don't say it now. I had a nonworking HO alternator that only charged 12.2v @ no matter what RPM i was at and this is where my dash said "volts." So I'm guessing it had to be lower than 10v?

just because your battery shows 12+ volts doesnt mean its good
