Yet another help me pick a headunit thread...

Ok guys, I have been lurking here for a few weeks now and reading ect ect. Very nice place and pakced with info. I Love it!

Anyway I get payed Friday and my aging Sony headunit that came in my truck SUCKS and just isn't cutting it. Time for a new one.

My budget for a headunit is $270 shipped to my door with everything necessary to install. There are several headunits I like:

Alpine 9830: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-acb80Djvz0T/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=62700&I=500CDA9830 About Crutchfield I know that is kind of high priced but I WOULD get a warranty and all necessary hardware.

Alpine 9831:http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_product_details.jsp?cid=7374 I like with it that it gets rid of Alpines semi ugly green color but is it worth that much more just to change colors? Also does anyone know if Hookedontronics is a reputalbe site? Would I get a warranty?

Also I am interested in some of the Pioneers BUT the regular 7700MP only has 2V pre-out Voltage. I kind of want 4V. Their Premier 770MP has 4V outs though. Again I don't know much about it but heres the Pioneer I LIKE: http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_product_details.jsp?cid=13176

Let me remind you what I put in the post is just ones I was pondering. Feel free to link to anything $~270 shipped to my door with all necessary installation hardware. Oh and if it matters I am going for Sound Quality. Im starting with my headunit though. Right now I have some Pioneer 6.5's in the doors and I have a old Kicker Solobaric 12" that is round and a Crossfire TEK 35.2(140max bridged) amp on it. I just can't figure out if it is worth buying a headunit and getting the warranty with it. I was going to buy a Alpine local but lets just say he was a little loco.

well i think that the 31 and the 30 are the same. just colors. and either one is good a high end sony is nice, eclipse is good basic look and very nice sound

u MIGHT need a wiring harness if u dont wanna figure out which wires are which on ur stock radio harness, and u MIGHT need a console. i personally didnt need a console but it all depends on what car u have. u can get these at cardomain or at ur local shop.

Well I have a POS Sony headunit now so surely they changed the stock harness? I dunno but I dont know how to get my sony out though..lol The previous owner didn't leave me the keys or whatever necessary to remove it.

hold u will not need anything. If u already have an aftermarket cd player in ur truck. All you will need to do is uninstall it.... I will answer your question further later cus now i have a paper to type. But I will definetly try to help you.

P.s. WHat is ur HOC in a head unit?

pioneers have the better stereo tuners then alpine does... I have the 9830 and I am thinking about getting a new pioneer, maybe the 770

Better specs then the alpine, 5v preouts, Burr Brown DAC, default stockinput, best display(3 line compared to 2 lines in alpines)

I am a fan of the Kenwood Excelon line as well. Pioner Premier is also a good choice. Personally, I tend to like my touchscreen Pansonic, but others typically aren't too fond of Pansonic.
