Yet another going active question.

Hey guys.

Finally got decently nice outside.. today atleast, and I got some motivation to get my active setup up and running. Everything is pretty much all set, I just need to set the gain for my amps but I have a question about amps in an active setup.

On my amps I have the filter selection; FULL, LPF, HPF. Which do I set it on... Is it amp dependent based on what speakers the amplifier is driving? Are the filters set in the HU? (Head unit is Pioneer p880prs) I'm just a little confused at this point and would like any advice you guy got.

Thanks,

Michael

You should turn off all the filters on the amps. The head unit will take care of all the crossover settings. After you switch the 880 to NW mode the deck will then give you the crossover settings to adjust. Just make sure the HPF for the tweeters is set right before you turn up the volume so you dont blow the tweeters.

Thanks, will turn them off now, and adjust gain. Gotta learn this HU... I feel so lost //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Its driver dependent also. I had mine at HP for a bit adjusted to that. Not quite low enough so I went FULL ah there it is! Its like that in the Active world...lol Your gonna tune that thing for hours a day. Set your base. The PRS 880 will take care of a lot.

Yeah, I just went active with this deck as well. Basically the NW1 option in the audio menu is where you select which crossover you want to adjust for. After you select one, turn over to NW2 to select your cross over frequency. Turn over to NW3 to select the slope of the crossover and phase of the speaker.

Suggestions for starting xover frequencies? Something to get me started... I just tooled around with it for a bit, this is going to be an adventure alright.

I'm currently working on getting my tweeters to sound right. Even on full volume they are extremely quiet. hmmmm

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm getting somewhere now for sure. Unfortunately the supports holding my box up behind my seat decided to give out today so I've some more problems on my hand. jeez

System as a whole sounded better with those suggestions and I plan on trying a higher crossover point for the tweeters, perhaps 2.5khz

On the mid HPF and mid LPF there are slope options of -24db/oct to PASS. What exactly does PASS stand for? I'm guessing 0db/oct.. any other input on this?

Also what would reversing the phase of speakers do? Something I should look into?

Thanks again,

Michael

Just a quick update for anyone that cares. Got everything sorted out, and up n running. It sounds GREAT. Very happy with the switch so far and wanted to thank those that helped contribute information my way. So thanks!

Michael
