YES I GOT THEM, YES THERE HOT YES THERE LOUD AND YESSS THEY ARE ALPINE TYPE R's!!!!!!

Well at least you finally agree on something about the type R's:veryhapp:
Oh yeah too bad we all know you are being sarcastic.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif But they do sound good sealed.
So long as you give em space, they don't mind sealed that much. I had only tested in one of those Q logic circuit city boxes, which didn't help things //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

For the 12, I'd say 1.5-2 cubes sealed.

Id be willing to bet that 1.5-2 with over the rated 500 rms is too much. The specs on them are .75-1.0 I have heard one in a 1 cu.ft. with 600rms on it. I would trust any larger with any more power.

Last week R's sucked sealed. Now they're good? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
whoda thunk it?

It performed so miserable in that dinky Q logic box that I just drew assumptions from that... larger sealed and it actually sounds pretty good. Not exactly loud, however... and yea... power handling goes out the window.

What's the xmax on the new R's, if you know off the top of your head?

18mm and they are dam near impossible to bottom out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
That would be enclosure dependant. Unless they are grossly inefficient (certainly not the impression you guys give about them on these threads) I see no reason why they would be any harder to 'bottom out' than a similar 18mm xmax sub. 18mm is pretty average, and Ive not read the R has a particularly stiff suspension. *shrug*

Thanks for the info guys, just wondering.

Well have mine sealed in 1.75 sealed. It gets low and my amp is pushing right around 550 per sub. It moves them pretty good. I am still gonna have maybe speakerman build me a ported box and compare them at that time. I listen to alot or rock and altenative so maybe porting isnt the way to go. Any suggestions?

they have 30 some MM of mechanical xmax... loooong way to go before they bottom out. Allows for that big power handling @ a low note.

And the R has a dual spider, it stays fairly stiff

this thread has turned into a type r fest. which is good.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif but no one is even talking about the original post anymore. **** mind as well just stick this one in the official type R thread lol. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
