XXX vs. MX

Oh... Okay. Just giving the little bit I have read or that was passed on to me about the VC. I can't say first hand from MY OWN experiences how much truth to the statement.

I know everyone here wants us to search. I do most of the time and agree with it but new developments come to the fore-front and it isn't in the archives. Well I did some searching after you told me that and I found two threads that had small bits of information relevant to my questions. I wasn't asking what can i break glass with. I was simply trying to get a good review of both woofers, from some trusted audio enthusiasts. I just think if you don't have good information to give about the subject than you shouldn't post on the thread, but that's why you have 10,000 posts. Regardless, sorry for blowing up at you, because there was no point in that. Nothing is wrong with telling me to search, the problem was in how you worded it. Anyways, my bad.

What are the reasons if you don't mind? I know it isn't the same as buying 06 new pieces but would a 05 XXX be > than an 06 MX?

I take it the MX is a better performer?

Nope. The XXX is superior to the MX for anything but sheer abuse. More displacement and XBL^2. The MX isn't a bad driver, but it's not better than the 05 XXX for a musical application.

and to answer another poster, i have owned a 12MX recent traded on this forum, 2 06 12 XXX, still own a 15 06 XXX, 1 12 04 xxx with 4 spoke basket, and recently got a 18 05 XXX

x^2....i also currently have a 12 mx just like 90accordman...and i'll stand by it any day of the week...it's by far the best thing i've ever owned...let's jsut say i used tobe strictly a JL man...i've had w7's and all..and this woofer (mx) is tha real deal...

Wow...

There is no way a MX can even compare to the 05 XXX is sound quality. I've designed and/or installed over 30 applications of each subwoofer. Greg from US Amps uses the MX as an SPL sub as many others do. Is it possible for an SPL sub to have good sound quality? Perhaps...but not likely.

I wouldn't say the MX is an SPL sub at all. They sound **** good and get very loud.

They do sound decent...and can be used for SPL...some people use them. I totally agree.

But it's nowhere near a SQ sub.

lol no it isn't. Your statement proves you aren't educated enough to even talk to me on the subject, so no further explanation is required.

Yep...but people are stupid/ignorant if they think it can. Saying that the MX is a better SQ driver than the XXX just shows that the person making the claim lacks a fundamental understanding of the gross difference in capabilities of the two designs.

If anything, the MX is like an SX with a better motor design and higher powerhandling, but it is still a standard overhung driver, and doesn't match ANY XXX in terms of accuracy or linear output.

Some of you think owning an MX gives you a right to speak on the subject, but really it just further compounds my point...you have a really poor understanding of how the driver works, or any driver, for that matter.

I believe the proper advice for such people would be "It is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

the point is that its NOT a SPL sub, sure you can use it for whatever you want, but its much the same as the old XXX
