Both will be in a sealed enclosure, 1400 RMS on tap. Lets assume I can get either for the same price. Both are used.

Nevermind the BS about eD's customer service, the flatcone would not even be under warranty.

I listen to metal, rock, punk, alt and prefer SQL with an emphasis on SQ, but still needs to be loud.

Anyone heard both subs with the same basic setup?

Please only vote if you have personal eqperience with one of the listed subs.

From what I hear the XXX is better in a ported box. Dont just get the XXX because there are 6 votes on it. I bet most people dont know what a A is and are just going for the XXX cuz thats one of the main subs that everyone gets on this forum.

that may be true too, but remember also I said the same price. The XXX is a much more expensive sub than the 12A was, so that might be part of it.

Also I recommended it because you said u listened to rock music. The A is very musical and quick. The XXX will not be as musical as the A. If anything the XXX will be louder but in a ported box. There wont be a big difference between the SQ i dont think but the A will work better sealed.

I'm gonna say the flatcone A for your application. The flatcone 'a' is an extremely musical sub. My buddy that has a brahama also had a 12a.22 setup in his car.

Ask Jack_Frost what he thinks of his.

im also trying to keep in mind that the resale of the XXX would be good, and RE isint making any more of those at the moment, where as the A seems hard to get rid of.

The 'a' will keep its resale value for a while as well. because I doubt elemental designs will ever make another woofer like that. Not many people like giving up their 'a's'

I've also heard the XXX works great in a sealed box, provided you have the power to push it of course
There's no reason they wont perform (very) well sealed. Other than the rumors floating around that they won't. *shrug* I think its just that the people who tend to buy a sub like the XXX also tend to want big vented systems with tons of port area, and to them this sound 'better' than a sealed system with a flatter response. To each their own. But this should not be translated to "xxx's dont work well sealed". Call RE and ask them yourselves, last time I did, I was told 2-3 ppl at RE use XXX's in their own personal vehicles, all of them run them sealed. Yeah, they must perform horribly sealed! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

in my box my 15 is not really to punchy but it dominates lowend, but it still sounds good on rock music if you set the eq a little different, a sealed box would prolly be better for rock than a ported though if your not wanting to get really loud
