XXX sub sounds weak

I'm not sure what it is. Well here is what I have installed. a Pioneer N4 head unit, a Mcintosh mc431 amp 4x100, a mc444 4x110 amp, a hifonics 2006D amp, focal utopia components, Focal TLR tweeters, and 1 12" XXX (2006 model). The sub is in a sealed enlosure.

Well the sub sounds ok when playing certain frequencies but if they are in the higher range it sounds if the sub is bottoming out. I know something is wrong but I'm not sure what to check. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Right off the bat I know newer RE subs tend to be more focused on really low end frequencies and they have pretty steep roll offs. My SE's are like that and from what I have heard its the case with the other models... So the lack of higher frequencies maybe attributed to that.

With that being said check the crossovers on your amp. Set your high pass filter to about 80 Hz. You may be getting some really high frequencies that your sub does not want.

^^^ where do you have your Subsonic filter set to???

what about Bass EQ??

& is it IN or OUT of Phase???

just try playing with your amp a little more to see what happens.

on your head unit are you useing the xover or EQ? if so try turning everything off/flat first, then readjust your amp.

I agree with you 150%. A local shop owner has a hatch back with 2 XXX 18"s on 2 2600 watt Hifonics. I know the amps aren't all that great, but it wasn't what I was expected. They hit a 148 at a comp, which I think isn't that great for the power and price. Oh, they were ported and I don't know the amp settings and it sounded horrible a high notes.

Im curious as to why you spent so much money on Mcintosh amp's for your components but you cheap out on the subwoofer amp. I would think if you were able to afford mcintosh you would have got a better quality sub amp.

About the subwoofer problem, I've never used a XXX but when I had my SX it did really well on the lower bass but in the upper range it was just lacking. But just double check all your settings to make sure they are right.

port that thing and youll see why people love that sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

for such cheap amps they sure have alot of world records lolz the loudest trunk car in the world uses hifonics amps on re subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif it is either box, settings or wiring, i would think. too many people use that amp for you to say it with a tone that implies it is the amps fault.

just my .02 cents //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
