XXX Comp only workin sometimes?

Like the title says. Mid is out of the car and just hooked up for testing. why does it only work sometimes, sound scratchy, coil looks fine, everything looks fine at that... and it still reads good.

It sounds to me that the mid is in fact shot. You do say it still reads good, so that is a bit confusing. Speakers can do all sorts if weird things when they go bad. It may be that even though it reads good, as soon as you apply power to it, it's enough to trigger the problem
