Will my 12" xxx sound good in a 2ft^3 tuned at 30hz? Im looking for good sq. i have a hifonics bx1605d for it.

yes... if u want toal SQ tune to 28-29, but 30hz it will get plenty loud and with PLENTY sq...

2 cubic feet tuned to 30hz will sound great. Try to get at least 36square inches of port area.

That speaker needs plenty of breathing room.

well i was going to get a free subzone box which is 2ft^3 at 30hz, my friend lost a bet to me and has that box sitting in his room and hasent used it at all. since hes got no money, he said he would just give it to me. I am going to use that untill i build a new box and amp rack.

Well RE recommends 2cuft tuned to 28-30hz for a XXX12 SQL setup, so yeah Id say you are pretty close with that box. If I were making a custom box Id go a bit bigger than recommended, but for a pre-fab that should be just fine. BTW, if you want the best SQ you should be looking at a sealed enclosure.

I do want good sq, but ive never tried a ported box, and have heard great things about ported boxes. considering the fact that its a free box, its worth a shot. Like i said, i will be building another box in the future when i build my amp rack. This can be a try and error type of thing, see what i like best.

thanks for all the input. put the sub in last night and this thing sounds awesome. Now i gotta build the amp rack and im ready to go. Really good sq.

tune it down to 23hz.....anything below that human ear cant really pick up...it starts 2 get faint....23 u will hear it but u will see shit shaking more than anythinhg

23hz tuning is simply too low for a car. IMO if you go much below 30-28hz, its a waste (depending on the sub).

I'm pretty sure RE recommends 2.5 cuft. That's what I have tuned to 30hz and it sound amazing.

If they recommnd 2.5 cuft, they've changed their recommendations since they took that info off their website. They use to recommend 2.0 cuft.
