XS Power D975

So I'm debating about purchasing an XS Power d975 off my local Craigslist, and I know this has probably been asked and answered, but would it be satisfactory to run it with the battery I have now in my sig? The XS is a 35ah, and the one I have under the hood from my local auto parts store is 60ah, or so it says.. Is this doable or should I just get another one that matches what I already have under the hood for a few extra bucks? I was planning on picking up the d975 off this guy for $100, and a new one with discount like I have under the hood would be about $160. I'm new to this whole second battery thing, and all I ever find is conflicting answers everywhere. What do you guys think I should do? Thanks in advance.

That is the battery that I have as a secondary, I have xs3400r up under the hood, they seem to do very well together. Virtually no dimmage what so ever, you should be fine dude.
Would you recommend a relay or an isolator due to the fact that they're 2 different brand, size, and age of batteries, or will they be fine as long as I keep my eye on both of them? I ask this due to the fact of so many people saying its bad to run two different size, age, and brand batteries.. they are both agms though obviously..

As long as they are both AGM batts you should be fine. An isolator would only help of you plan playing your system with the vehicle off, if I am not mistaken dude.
I believe you are right from what I've learned, I just had to hear it again from someone else to be 100% sure.. and I never ever play it with the car off. Thanks man, I'll be sure to post how it works out for me once I get it and install it.

Please do, and that's why we are here, to learn, and maybe pass on a lil knowledge when we can dude.

You could see what the batteries normally rest at. Both being AGM's, I wouldn't even bother running an isolator or relay. As long as they don't rest at vastly different voltages, they won't drain down or affect eachother just being hooked up

Ok, well I got the d975 yesterday, and it was resting at 12.8 flat. The one under the hood rests between 12.5-12.6ish. So you think that would be fine? Also, I have one other question. Would you use a 3rd fuse between the back battery and the amp? The amp is internally fused with 2 70a fuses already, so I figured I could just get away with using the typical 2 fuses, one by the front battery, and one before the back battery. Would you run it like that? I have a 350a fuse/fuse holder under the hood with the 1 run of 2/0 coming off the front battery, and I was going to purchase 1 more 350a fuse and fuse holder of the same size for the rear battery.

.2 or .3v difference is fine. Go ahead.

Depends. How far from the battery in the back is your amp? The fuse is to protect your rear battery and wire in the event of a short. This would hopefully prevent your vehicle from catching fire. If the amp is close to the battery, I wouldn't worry about it. If there's lots of wire that could get cut or pinched, yes use a fues. For sure, use a fuse after your front battery and before your rear battery on the 2/0 power run.

350A is too much. 300 fuses is what you should be using maximum, especially if your amp is only fused to 140 amps. You could even get away with 250 or 200 amp fuses to be safer. Just my opinion, that's what I'd do

Ok, thank you.. the pos wire from the batt to the amp will be no longer than 1.5-3 feet long depending on where I decide to end up mounting it.

I figured you'd say that about the fuses, and part of me already knew that.. I'll buy a 250 for the rear and replace the front 350 with one of them also. I always heard 2/0 wire was rated for 350 amps though and should be fused at that, that's why I purchased that 350 fuse to begin with. Was I mislead about that?

It can handle 300-350 amps depending on the length, yes. However, fuses don't blow instantly. You can burp a lot of power with small fuses on your power wire, as has been shown in competition.

If you were pulling a lot of current through the wire with your amp, I'd say sure, use a 300 or 350 amp fuse. Since you have susch a small draw on it, I see no reason to fuse so high. A 250 amp fuse will be a lot safer, imo

Just my two cents, others may disagree

Thanks, I'm gonna take your advice and that's what I'm gonna do. You think it would be wise to drop down the fusing on my 4 gauge too? It came with a 175 amp fuse, which always seemed excessive to me.. does a 100amp sound better? It's running the Sundown sax-125.2 which has 2 30amp fuses. That 4 gauge run is gonna stay hooked up to the front battery as it is now, not gonna be hooked to the rear battery, unless you recommend I cut the 4 gauge down to a couple foot long piece and just hook it up to the rear battery too instead. Right now the 2/0 and 4 gauge pos runs to the rear are both about 18 feet each.
