Ok, so I replaced the powersupply and motherboard on an emachine, since the cheapo powersupply failed and messed the MOBO up.
Well i got it all installed and hooked up and it fired up but it goes to the welcome screen and says it must be activated before you can login. So I hooked it up to our LAN, and it got internet activity but when I went to activate it, they said the Product key was invalid.
So I figured since windows sees that I have a new hardware and stuff installed that it thinks it's a different computer. So I did the activation by phone so i could talk with a support representative. After waiting forever, an Indian woman answers. She asks for the first 6 digits of installation ID so I tell her, but she said it there was an error.
I told her that I installed a new motherboard and she told me that I needed to contact my "manufacturer or reseller" so that they can fix the error. I told her that it was no longer a genuine emachine computer since it has a new motherboard in it that is not OEM (has same chipset) and she told me to call the manufacturer.
She gave me a number, but I could not really understand her, so I just pretended to, and hung up, cuz she started getting hateful.
Should I call my manufacturer or reseller or the manufacturer of the motherboard. Seems to me like either of them will do anything to help me, except say buy a new copy of windows
