Xenon 1200.1 vs. Alpine PDX 1.1000

i believe the pdx is gonna be much easier on the electrical and has excellent sound quality

IIRC the alpine is 90% eff, but not positive. I've never tried either amp, but I'm willing to bet the alpine would be easier on your electrical. Have you did the Big3 yet? Dimming won't hurt anything, just make sure your voltage isn't dropping low.

I'm using an SI Mag v3 at the moment (probably for a while, great sub). Right now it's being powered by a pdx 1000.1 (@ 4ohms). I'm not disappointed with the pdx at all really, but I don't want to turn the gain up past 80% and I'm pretty sure the subwoofer can take more than ~800-900, not that I'm concerned with a few hundred watts. But the pdx isnt very adjustable/customizable as you may know
It looks like the S/N ratio of the xenon is 10db greater than that of the PDX and the efficiency of the xenon is 80% which is pretty solid, I cant find any numbers on the pdx though, does anyone have any idea how the pdx measures up the xenons efficiency.

I'm starting to get some dimming when I give the stereo a good crank, which I'd never run into before.

Just looking for some general opinions, if anyone has dealt with both and can offer some input please chime in for me.

You dont have to, but the amp will like you much better if you do so. If you have have a short run of 4 guage to one of the terminals, then it works decent.

No, I'm the guy who had zero issues whatsoever with my previous amps after everyone told me to get a HO alt and a deep cell (~500-600). So I tried it and it was flawless with stock electrical. My only input was to try it and adjust accordingly. I don't recall ever saying don't upgrade your electrical, thanks though

I'm not dropping lower than 13.2 or so hardly ever. I've seen the voltmeter flash to 12.8 or 12.9 once or twice.
