the towel trick works fine to get you back into playing gta IV while your waiting for your box to come in.

it will work for a little while but if done repeatedly it will make the Xbox unfixable without replacing the whole mobo....

I had gone through 4 xboxs before giving up, One was an elite and then the other 3 were the premium ones. I bought one a month or so after launch, worked fine for a while, then RROD, so I called microsoft etc, did this 2 times, then when my 3rd 360 premium RRoD'd I just said **** it and threw it away. Then a few months later when the elite came out I bought an elite and hoped that would help, it didn't. Lol, so I just didn't wanna deal with it anymore so I sold it to my friend Marty for $250 and he is dealing with it now. Wonder if it's given him any problems since then? Hm. don't know. But yeah, my average turn around was 4 weeks or so, one time it took 7 weeks but that had to have been a shipping error, another time it took 3 weeks, and when my friend marty did it it took him 4 weeks.

I tried the towel trick the last time I got RROD and it worked well enough to get into the dashboard and launch a game, but still locked up constantly so I'd say just send it in and not mess w/it although other people's mileage has varied.

As far as getting a new console - the first time I sent mine in I got a refurb'd unit and the second time I got the exact same console back (s/n matched what I sent in) so I guess they just fixed the internals. I've heard of folks getting new units back but I definitely wouldn't count on it.

I got it on my original one after around a year. Sent it back, got a refurbed one back in right around 3 weeks.

Had to wait about a month to get mine back. I have had it only happen once. I haven't even played it over a month, lol! I play the PS3 once in a while though. I am not much into games anymore to be honest. I love the blu ray in the PS3 though.

I was just saying use the towel trick to wait for your shipping box to come in...not do it over and over. I do agree doing it over and over is bad, but once is okay...4-5 more days to play is pretty nice.

Meh, I can wait 4-5 days. Hell I have both systems and I have went with out playing for over a month. Just not a big gamer anymore.
