My X had a shiny copper-colored coil....

This is a picture from my really old for sale thread:

The X v.1 10/12/15/18 used a shiny coil for most of it's life -- towards the end black coils were mixed in but it wasn't on very many.

The X v.2 10/12/15/18 have nearly 100% used black coils.

In this case the original coil for the X was a 200 C coil made by PoYun (biggest coil company on earth) -- very good quality & consistency (their factory is awesome... I went there) but not super high temp. The newer black coils are the much talked about HP500 Zenith coils.

-----

The X-8 has used both a shiny coil (first run only) & black coil.

The first coils were also PoYun coils -- which worked fine but I changed the coil to a former ID that PoYun doesn't have after the first run... I also changed the D2 to a bit of a "tricky" winding type. The newer ones are made by Audiostar; they have the former ID I wanted & were capable of doing the tricky D2 coil -- the D2 & D4 coils now have the same OD and WW and they both use round wire =)
