wtf?

So I was reading a thread on CACO...a guy asked if he needed an alternator to run ~2800 watts and everyone is arguing that he will be fine with an extra battery and a 100 amp alt. Now am I stupid, or are they setting this guy up for a FAIL? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Now if they were telling him 1500 or a little more was fine, I could understand that...but I cant believe 3k on a stock alt with 1 battery is "fine".

Btw, I have over double the alt and battery that they are suggesting for 3k.. Does that mean I can run 7-8k? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Depends on the amps his stock alt produces. I had to get a new one because my little stocker only put out 80 amps.
105 amp stock alt... after the draw from the vehicle itself and factoring in the loss from heat etc.. you're looking at probably 60-80 amps tops. Turn the air on and you're fucked. I just cant believe people are suggesting to run 2800 watts on a stock alt and extra battery. Sure it can be done, but you better be revving your engine at all times.

what kind of "2800 watt" amp is he going to run... that's the real question...
i could see him saying "my amp has 2800 peak watts" and everyone saying "yea, your fine" lol
That wasnt mentioned... he said 2800 watts RMS. The main one pushing this says he ran 4k on stock alt and 5 extra batteries and didnt drop below 13volts

Hell, why does anyone suggest HO alts if they're not needed til you're running 5k RMS daily? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I asked here what I could safely run with a 250amp alt and 150ah worth of batteries and the average answer was ~3k. Now Im learning that all I needed was the batts to run 3k+. I should get zero voltage drop running my 1500 watts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I ran 3k off of a stock 140 amp alt and a coulple of kinetiks ( 1400 and a 2400 ) and I had ugly voltage drop. But honestly most of us here do tend to go overkill when it comes to running our equipment

"Overkill" only creates stable voltage though. Isnt the point, to get the most out of your set up? I mean I agree he could probably get away with it...but its not going to be safe or effective by any means.
