WTF moment of the day...

So I was googling info about Ron Paul because I realized I don't know nearly enough about him to assess his validity as a candidate, and I found his wikipedia page:

Paul has been called a conservative, Constitutionalist, and libertarian. He advocates non-interventionist foreign policy, having voted against the Iraq War Resolution. He favors withdrawal from NATO and the United Nations, supports free trade but not NAFTA or the World Trade Organization, and opposes amnesty and birthright citizenship for illegal aliens. Paul supports reducing government spending and states that he has never voted in Congress to raise taxes or to approve an unbalanced budget.[2] Paul opposes the federal income tax[3] and wants to abolish most federal agencies.[4] He opposes the Patriot Act, the federal War on Drugs, and gun control. Paul is strongly pro-life, advocating the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and affirms states' rights to determine the legality of abortion.[5]
WTF? So you support non-interventionist foreign policy and tiny national government, oppose government control of basically everything that tries to run your life or tell you how to spend your money, but still feel justified in thrusting your moral ideology on the entire country?!

I give up.

affirms states' rights to determine the legality of abortion.
i think you are misreading what it is saying. he is not pushing his morals, he is re-inforcing that the states can decide what is legal. in other words, he is leaving his beliefs out of the subject. at least, thats the way i took it.

You're right actually I did misread it as "the states ability" as in the national government. I still think it's hypocritical to be pro life given the rest of his stance, but I'm all for state's rights I guess.

i won't believe anything these idiots say until they truly practice separation of church and state.
Well, I've heard many people who advocate that say that you shouldn't vote your morals if you're a Christian. That religion has nothing to do with politics... but how are you supposed to vote if you don't vote for what you believe is right?

IMO politicans are supposed to vote what they personally think is or is not right. They are supposed what the people who vote for them think is or is not right.

give me an example of what you mean

Well, people say that abortion is an example. So... if someone has a religious belief that abortion is wrong, shouldn't they work to make it illegal? Shouldn't they vote for other people with like-minded views?

Morals and politics are inextricably intertwined, and let's face it, religion and morals are also. This also applies to LACK of a religious preference. Voting one's religious beliefs and voting one's conscience are the same thing.

Paul is trying to state he beleives that the decision of abortion being allowed is up to the state and not the federal government. But yea there is a problem with religion being in government. Bush claims to be a good christian all the time, well wtf does that have to do with our country or goverment?

So if one is a Christian, or a Muslim, or a Jew, then you should put all that aside when playing President of the United States? How could you possibly make any decisions without them being colored by your beliefs, whether religious or not?

no. 2 wrongs don't make a right. why should someone be allowed to make a desicion, based on religion, about another persons life that may not be religious?

i disagree.
