WTF - I can't figure this out!

Ok, here's the situation. When I'm listening to the radio, everything is fine, both external amps power up and the system works perfect. As soon as I switch to a CD, the HU doesn't recognize the external amps and sends power to the factory amp. I know this because the rear speakers are still attached to the factory amp and they're the only speakers that play when a CD is in. The external amps won't even power on with a CD in. What do I need to do?

OK, I have a Kenwood X789 headunit and two amps, both Hifonics. I wired everything up last night and everything is working great. This morning I go out, crank the Tahoe, everything is working great. Two minutes down the road the amps go into protection. I power the headunit off, then back on, neither amp will power up. I get home and run the remote wire straight to the battery and both amps power up. So, I figure the HU isn't putting out enough power to run both (their daisy chained). I unhook the second amp so that the HU is only powering one - it won't power up. There seems to be a problem with the HU's remote lead. But, why would it work perfectly for a few minutes, then nothing? If worst comes to worst, I guess I could wire the amps straight to the battery and use a dash mounted switch, but I really want to just run them off the HU. What the *&%$ can I do?!

The Kenwood X789 has two remote on leads I'm pretty sure, one has power when the radio is on to operate a power antenna and the other is on at all times while the head unit is on to operate amplifiers.

It sounds like you got these two mixed up.

Stones = right, i did it myself.

When you hooked up your remote, you attached it to a blue and white wire, I believe it is. I did this in a Jeep of my buddys a few months back, if that doesnt fix it ... let us know
