okay so same sub as in this thread: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=364649

i went ahead with the amazing goop worked very well...looks decent, hooked it up now after letting it cure for a while

in the upper sub bass range, like 40-80hz region, the sub makes a sound almost like bottoming out except not as bad, sounds like the voice coil is rubbing or something...but below that in like the 10-40hz range, with it excurting even more, it sounds fine...what could be making it do this and is there anything i can do about it short of a recone...?

I really don't think it has anything to do with the fix i just did on the surround, that seems to have worked out perfectly from a mechanical standpoint...

idk...any suggestions?

if it sounds like its bottoming out then it most likely is. is it a "slapping" noise?
its definitely not bottoming out...I know this because 1...its not moving that far...this sub has 28mm of xmax and doesn't bottom out till closer to 38mm

2. because again...i can just go down into the 20's and it excurts nearly twice as much and makes no noise

3. I know exactly what bottoming out sounds like and feels like and this isn't it

the noise sounds like metal rattling against metal...tin can kind of sound

after more testing, it only really happens in the 45-55hz range, and only once it reaches a certain amount of excursion (which again is nowhere near its maximum)
