Would you trade...

a Soundstorm 2 chan. amp rated at 700watts X 2 for a Rockford 2 chan. amp (not sure which series, I think its a punch though) rated at 400 X 2. If anyone has heard of Soundstorm amps, you're probably aware they aren't top notch to say the least. I paid 250$ new for it and my buddy got his from a friend for about the same used. I am posting this bc a friend offered to trade his RF straight up for my Soundstorm amp. I am pushing 2 10in infinity perfects only running 350watts to eachwith the Soundstormamp. so in your opinions, do you think this is a good trade for me. I know my Soundstorm is not pushing what it's rated, and I'm curious if the lower rated RF would overall improve the spl/sq of my subs bc it is better quality even though rated about half the power. Any opinions are very appreciated thanks guys

Yes, I would make that trade in a heartbeat, no question about it.

I remember last year before I started really trying to learn about audio, I bought a soundstorm amp.....some big *** blinged out thing with a plexi cover 900.2, I think it was. BIG AS FVCK. Never installed it, sold it and got a Tantrum.......

Make the trade.

all i have to say is soundstorm blows, but your losing 300 watts

Well, he would be losing 300 rated watts. Chances are, the Soundstorm is horribly overrated, and the Rockford is underrated, so he probably wont lose much, if any, power.

thanks for the advice guys.yeh i got the soundstorm planning on replacing it but ran into a curb and then had some tickets so basically got stuck with it. I don't know a ton about car audio, so would it potentially harm my subs to push all of the RF 400 x 2 watts into my 2 infinitys that are 350 rms each? I heard running an amp to its max is not wise as it will distort and decrease sq and could harm subs. is this true in my situation. what noticeable advantages will the RF give me over my soundstorm? thanks again

The RF will (more than likely) still be going strong after the Soundstorm just gives out. Its basically just a better constucted, more solid amp.

You dont have to give the entire 400 x 2 (which is gonna be underrated) to the subs, check out the gain setting tutorial on this forum, it will teach you how to set your gains correctly. Let us know what the model number of the Rockford is.

WOW take that trade! That SoundStorm amp is uuckkk. I mean talk about being horribly overrated. RF is much, much better....also like it was said earlier, all you have to do is watch the gain and your subs would be set

Hey guys thanks for the fb. Quick update - I decided to trade amps and took my soundstorm out a couple hours ago. My bud hooked it up ( to his 1 15in Armagedon sub ) and bridged it so he said it will give it 1400 watts (if rated correctly which he is aware it is not ). It sounded pretty good but didn't really bump it bc didn't want to wake up the fam! I have not hooked up the rockford, but i have it right here and it is the "POWER 800.2" here is a link

rf amp

And this is the Soundstorm amp i traded. I made a mistake in original post but the Soundstorm is max 1400 watts bridged into 1 chan. the link shows the 1600watt one but mine is 1400watts.

soundstorm amp

So you guys still think i got a good deal? what is the best way to run this amp to my 2 10in inf perfects that are 350 rms? I heard i can bridge 2 chan into 1 and wire it so I could run both subs. Is this true? thanks

cool, i am excited to hook it up and see how my infinitys perform with a real amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Funny i saw this thread.

My bro got a Soundstorm catalogue a LONG time ago (2002). And i needed some reading material for you know what. So i read the thing and amlost fell off the toilet laughing

WOW !

The stuff is incredibly overrated. I swear, they are the same amps that BOSS uses.

Soundstome= POS

RF= Not POS

yeh i agree with you on that, but i was surprised how well my infinty's have performed from that soundstorm. they sounded much better than i would have expected from such a crappy amp. i guess my perfects are pretty good, so will be awesome on an RF amp. so i could run 400 watts to each sub on the rf amp, correct? I am sorry, i read the stickies and i just get confused as hell with all the power current electric voltage mambo jambo. i just want a good system, not to be a friggin electrician! maybe i am just stereo challenged

another probably annoying question to many, but i search and search and search in circles. so pushing 400watts to each would require the gain to be all the way up, right? this is no good, correct? how about this supa (or anyone else willing to help w/o telling me to search the **** thing please //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif ) if this was your own amp/sub setup, what would ya run it at - ohms/watts to each/ gain/ etc. i am trying hard to learn so i don't have to bug always! thanks
