Would you pay $60/mnth for 1.5 Meg internet? and $130 for satellite?

Like I said, ping rate is awful with satellite. The signal has to bounce off a satellite that is thousands of miles in the air, then return to the ground, then route to the server you are connected to. Its an added jump in your connection chain, and a very large one at that. I never tried xbox or ps with satellite, but my ping rate was awful, even for fairly close servers, when playing pc games. FPS games were almost unplayable. A server that Id have a ping rate of 50 on dial-up, would be 140-200 using the sat connection. Games like WoW it wasnt as big a deal, but games like FPS's it was terrible. Downloading data, and surfing forums, it was fine however, as the added latency wasn't really noticeable.

i live out side the limits of the DFW area
everyone about 10 miles east of me pays $40 and gets 7-10Mbps

I pay $30 for 3Mbps

They want $79.99 for 3Mbps.

I had to talk to them and tell them they are charging $60 when verizon is charging $30 for 2-3 times the speed

That the bs situation im in too.. Sucks man

Satellite internet sucks. They tell you how great the bandwidth is, and the bandwidth is fine... but the ping rate sucks, and always will. That satellite is a long long ways up in the sky, which kills ping rate. Online gaming was awful using satellite when I had it. I downloaded data using the sat connection, but for gaming I went back to dial-up.

I dont online game much on the computer, just XBL.. do alot of downloading on PSN and XBL as well, But with a bad ping, does that just mean its going to be slower, or just have a lag/?

What is the satellite per month without the movie channels?

Im on Directs Premier package which is 265 channels and includes everything sports pack ( nhl, nba, golf, mlb, vs, fsn networks .. 12 channels in all ) and like 40+ channels from starz, sho, cinemax, hbo , flix and a few more then some other movie exclusive channels .. The choice plus is basically the premier without the movies or the sports pack, and its $80/mnth

Satellite internet isn't that bad as long as you can get a good signal. I was able to play 360 and PS3 online with no issues, downloaded around 150-180kbps, and stream just about anything with no problems. But if you live in the woods or when it's windy, cloudy, or a storm you can pretty much count on it not working and if it does work it's not even as fast as a dial up connection. I have my DSL line and I also have the LG Env Touch with unlimited data and use it to connect to the internet through USB and get over 100kbps. I only have to pay $20 a month extra to get the unlimited data which also includes unlimited text and picture messages. I would suggest looking into one of the cell phone services before going with the more expensive choice.

Doing that now, Just trying to find places.. I have ATT cell service so I might see what they have, then also might check directv too

Ping will only be a problem with player vs player types of quick-action games... like an FPS. If your ping is 200, and your enemy's is 50, well you start out with a disadvantage before the first shot if fired. That ping latency will probably not be noticed in other types of games like mmorpg's, or simply surfing forums, where bandwidth becomes a bigger factor than ping rate.

i pay $130ish for cable channels (70 or so channels, all hbo/starz etc, but were not big tv watchers here), 25gb internet, 5-10mb speed (runs around 5mb down/1200 up) and a land line phone (for 911 apparently)
