Some type of ported enclosure tuned somewhere between 37-33hz (~2.3^3 ft)

powered by same amp... Hifonics 1500BX

Would this be a good upgrade both SQ and SPL wise? Money is not a factor. If you think that the 13W7 could be in a better enclosure tell me.

so you are sending those type r's 700 watts a piece? i think i would go with the w7 but maybe a little lower tuning say 30-33 hz. those w7 have dual 1.5 ohm coils don't they? your not gonna get much out of that amp then paired with that sub.

Go with the W7's my girlfriend has w3v2's and they hit hard and the W7's are 10 times better

money wasnt a factor. i could get it for almost half the price if the deal is legit. check out the classifieds.

anyways i am just asking if this WOULD be an upgrade. im not too sure i am even going to upgrade.

im not too sure how much i am sending the type r's since the amp is under rated and there have been so many different results when actually testin the amp.

also on the amp thing, for now ill be using the 1500BX but the amp will also be upgraded to an eD nine.1 in a couple months.

what impedence are those type r's running at? are you running them at 1 ohm and 1500 watts or 2 ohm or 4 ohm? if you are running them at 1 ohm, that is a lot for them, and i don't see how then one w7 would be louder since the w7 could not be run at 1 ohm and has less cone area as the 2 12's. then again they are in a sealed enclosure. any chance you could make a ported box for the type r's?

what's the impedence of the w7? if it's 1.5 ohms you could only run it at 3 ohms so you would be giving the w7 less power then the type r's.

The w7 is an upgrade over the Type R's for sure but you definatley don't have the right amp to power it well. Your two options for wiring it are .75 if you wire the vc's in parallel or 3 ohms if wiring them in series. At 3 ohm that amp supposedly puts out 750 watts @ 14 volts but from what I read that is not the case. I guess the w7 could get loud off of 600ish watts in a ported enclosure but you really wouldn't be taking advantage of what the sub can do. If you're serious about getting a w7 I would look at a different amp. A tantrum 1200.1 is a good option for one and they can be had for a pretty reasonable price ($300 ish). You're other options are to look for something that is dvc 2 ohm. XXX or Brahma come to mind, I lean towards the Brahma myself. You could also wait a liitle while and pick up the new tumult which replaces the Brahma.
