Would A 15" Brahma in A ported box, be able to take over an 18" Ava sealed?

I want to get a 15" brahma....to take place of my 18" Ava....it would be in a Low tuned (25-30) Hz box...would the Brahma fill the shoes of the 18" well? and do I need a Subsonic Filter for a ported box ( my current amp doesnt have one)

Would be close. The 18 inch sub gets an extra 3dbs for cone area but the Brahma gets an extra 3dbs for the ported box so it should cancel out. Alot depends on tuning and all that fun stuff but I would go with the ported Brahma.

the brahma should theoretically be the louder sub. A sealed sub with equal excursion to the brahma would need to be a 30in sub. When dealing with something logarithmic like this your units don't matter. The Av's only an 18. Porting is generally specified to be a 3db gain, but it's pretty loose average.

PS.Porting brahmas makes me sad

Well...dude, if they made an 18" Brahma, i would get that....and keep it sealed...but since they dont, I need something with atleast the same amount of output as my old 18", ya see?

BTW....im going to be using a Mmats D200hc...about 1400 watts on the Brahma
