Works for a minute???

I'm wondering if anyone can offer any advice. I have a sony xplod 800watt amp, wired to two 12" subs in a vented box. My head unit runs through an equalizer for the door speakers, and throught the amp for the subs. I have the trigger wire going to the equalizer and the amp. The problem is, when I turn on my car, the stereo works for about a minute...then dies! And I mean all the speakers die, and that doesn't make sense cuz they're on two circuits(the EQ and the amp). The only thing these have in common are the trigger wire, and the head unit itself... so what could this be??? any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanxx

Common people! SOmeone's got to have experienced something like this. I have no stereo without your help. if no one really can help, I guess I'll have to **** it up and go pay for a repair job dammit. haha thanxx guys. peace

Well, if the amp is the only thing that turns off, you probably have the gains set too high, its overheating, or you have the speakers wired incorrectly. If everything turns off after a minute that is extremely weird, might be drawing too much power, but HU's can usually atleast stay on with very low voltage. A friend of mine has sony amps and they have a habit of cutting out and turning off completely have about 30 minutes of hard playing, so maybe the gains are just set too high and the amp is cutting out earlier. Also what kind of car is it and year? And if you are powering speakers or subs, and if subs what voice coil, type, etc..

I'll have to check the gains. That very well may be the problem. Its an 800watt Sony Xplod amp connected to a very crappy head unit, which has a 5 disc changer attached. The front door speakers run through an EQ NOT connected to the amp in any way except the trigger wire. The amp powers 2 12"s in a vented box. They're some crazy non-name brand that I've never heard of before and can't remember the name right now. Maybe once I check the specs I'll get back to you guys. Thanxx for your help thus far!
