******* woofer died again!

Might be throwing DC out on one of the channels...regardless...you either have the worst luck in choosing equipment, or there's an underlying issue with the install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
well i welcome anyone in the area to come look at it. ive never had problems like this b4 and ive had god knows how many different setups in the 6 or so years i been really into car audio.

ill check for a dc signal tomorrow if weather permits. however it WAS reading ac when i set gains

im not an audio signal pro, it may not have been. its whatever CA.com recommends in those gain setting stickies.
I know what you mean.

my old Profile CA400 amp blew up my SLC265's crossover, and rainbow dragged there dicks around in the mud for 3 months before they sent me a repaired one (all that blew was the capacitor, nothing else). In fact, I don't even think they sent me one, more like Aaron (premieraudio) finally gave in and sent me a new one from a new set he picked up from them.

and when I mean blew up...I mean blew up. That amp sent over 100 volts into that crossover and did that capacitor BLOW UP! Here i am sitting in my car i see a ****ing explosion on my door panel. Scared the shit out of me.

I posted pics and people said i must have wired it up wrong, you're fault for being an idiot, blah, blah. Thing is, they worked before. I had never listened to them so the day before i had them hooked up and playing. the next day- boom! same gain, wires, everything.

Rainbow's products are handmade, which is probably an issue. No one part is the same, so testing can not be conclusive.

Regardless, rainbow's customer support= fubar.

yeah you're right, could a short have caused the speaker to burn out maybe? this is quite the phenomenon you're dealing with sir.
well thats the only other thing i can think of besides faulty equipment. so im thinking maybe i should fuse by the amp.

well this is no good news //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

when i had my jbl amp (being repaired) i ran 200 and sometimes a ltitle more (depending on song) but i also set gains with 0db test tones..

-6db seems like too much imo... esp if you're already putting double rated power.. im pretty sure this is correct but doesnt 3db's = double power... assuming this is right... if you used -6db's to set the gains and did hit a 0db or -3db tone consistantly..... that would be

for the first +3db's

200watts * 2 = 400

then for the next +3dbs

400watts * 2 = 800

so you're amp would be trying to make a 800 watt signal or even if it hit -3db's it would still be 400.. but i doubt its gonna do the 800... so it will clip and even if it did... im sure thats above the thermal limits..

this second half might be wrong so plz correct me if i am... but either way.. i wouldnt recommend -6db's

how do you plan on checking for dc?

If the amp is working properly you will see some weird random shit using the dc setting, I have experienced it when forgetting to change my volt meter to ac when measuring power output. Your dmm isn't going to see any of the dc spikes without using a very high volume either.

Only true way to see if its messed up is to put it on a oscope

DMM will read 0V on an AC signal when in DC mode. so im just assuming if i read any DC volts, theres a problem. isnt that safe to assume?
