Wood choice

Generally speaking more plies is better and if you can look at it see how free of voids it is... not all ply is created equal. That said, my loudest single sub box was made from the cheapest exterior grade ply I could find, so with proper bracing and construction it really shouldn't matter.

our biggest concern with any wood is rigidity, the ability to cut well and leave a smooth edge, and the ability to glue well. various grades of plywood produce various results.

The main benefit that birch or ply has over MDF is the ability to hold screws. for mounting speakers or subs i use t-nuts with MDF for that reason.

Lighter weight is a nice feature, as is resistance to moisture, and good rigidity.

Any ideas what I outta get from HD? There was one particular birch that had a lot of layers in it but bad reviews too...

Sande Plywood (Common: 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.; Actual: 0.709 in. x 48 in. x 96 in.)-454559 - The Home Depot

Also....they come up short being called "3/4".... .709" or even .700

I am building my new enclosure now and I took @ CSCStang recommendation and got the purebond at Home depot. I will prob never use MDF again ! This stuff is so much lighter weight and working with it, doesnt have near the dust MDF has. Yes I does cost 49.99 a sheet but well worth it in my opinion.

The pure bond I use from HD (made in usa) is good ply for the money. Few voids and cuts very well. Very light and strong. The Baltic birch I use (Ganahl lumber) is 13 layer and a little heavier but it's Hella solid. It comes in 5x5 sheets though.
