yup.. i'm a noob to this kinda business.. and i need help finding the right sub for my setup. this is all in a 96 acura integra 4door (db7).

currently i am running:

pioneer head unit (deh-4800mp)

alpine vpower 1200 watt 4 channel amp to

JL audio 6x9 rears and JL audio 6" fronts

4gauge power wire into a distribution block (2x 15 amp fuses) exiting with 2x 4gauge power wire.

1 power wire powers my alpine amp, the other is for future sub and amp.

i already have RCA cables taken care of and wired to the trunk. 2 sets go to the alpine amp and 1 set is left out for future amp/sub.

what else am i going to need to run a nice sounding hard hitting sub? should i switch up to 0gauge power wire? (or at least to the dist. block.??) at what point am i going to need to wire in a capacitor? and how big of one will i need?

what are some general things i should know about in wiring this stuff up?

where is a good place to get a sweet deal on a 1000watt monoblock amp, typeR 10, and a box made for the alpine spec? would ebay have the best prices?

any advice would be much appreciated, and i thank anyone and everyone for their advice in advance.

Mmkay.. I'll work from the bottom of the list. Good place to obtain an amp and driver? Right here! If you're iffy about forum trades/sales, you can go to http://www.onlinecarstereo.com They have great deals on products all year 'round. And their brand new.

Things you need to understand about wiring.. Most of it is cake work (wiring the amps power, remote lead, grounds and RCA's). Where most new people make the mistake is understanding impediance loads. Also a good reason for many voice coils fryin'. So, until you decide on which amp you'd like, I can't really help you with wiring up the sub the CORRECT way. Different voice coil options call for different amounts of power in most cases.

Capacitors aren't as good as many think they are. You'd probably be better off doing the 'Big 3' or a second battery or both. And yes, the bigger the wire, the better. I would, without question use 1/0, but 4 AWG will get you power to the amp.

And lastly.. Ditch the rear 6X9's and just use the front stage speakers. Possibly get a decent set of components for your front stage and just use those and your sub. It sounds a lot better.

Hope it gives you some sort of help. Choose an amp and I can go further into detail about voice coil wiring for the correct impediance/power.

thanks man, that's good info right there and helps alot. how about working backwards... i really like the alpine typeR 10.. it's been my favorite "cheap sub" for since ever... (since they're only like 120 bucks)

sorry please explain what is meant by 'Big 3'... i never heard of such a thing before.

here are the typeR specs.

10" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils

Kevlar® reinforced pulp cone with Santoprene™ rubber surround

cast aluminum frame with perimeter venting

frequency response: 24-600 Hz

peak power: 1,500 watts

power handling: 200-500 watts RMS (250 watts per coil)

sensitivity: 83 dBhe heat out of the sub so it stays cool at all times

So.. Cheapo setup with nice thump eh? Get the Type-R, wire it for a 1-Ohm load and connect it to a lil' Hifonics BXi608.

Big 3 = Larger gauge wire in these areas

1) Battery Positive to Alternator Positive (fused)

2) Battery Negative to Chassis/Body

3) Chassis/Body to Engine
