Wiring two subs, 2 channel

Ok, I am pretty new to car audio, so bear with me please!

I am about to wire up two JL 10w3v2 d2's.. I want to run it with two channels(I enjoy stereo bass, I dont like mono much). I am looking at the PDF file for these subs and there are two methods listed for wiring the subs "Voice coils in series" and "Voice coils in Parallel".

I do not wire these subs together in any way to do this with 2 channels, do I? So I would wire the subs seperate of each other is what I am thinking, correct me if I am wrong though.

What are parallel and in series though? What would be the difference in sound, etc?

Thanks a ton, I think I have the wiring part down, I just dont know which method to choose yet!

Thanks,

Lurius

If you are going to wire them to be driven by separate amp channels then your options are either the 1 Ohm (parallel) or 4 Ohm (series) choice. As the majority of amps are NOT stable at 1 Ohm in stereo (some exceptions exist but the majority of amps are not) you'll need to use the 4 ohm option. With that in mind look for an amp that does adequate power per channel @ 4 ohms and you'll be gold! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Im using an alpine t757 which is supposed to be stable at 1ohm stereo and 2 ohm mono, but its one of points that alpine denies but others say it is stable, so ill risk it and have it tested soon before I really push it.

I have one more question, if I run two 2ohm subs with 1 ohm load, one on each channel, will this be a .5 ohm load on the amp, or will it be 1ohm load on the amp?

Thanks again for the fast reply!

Would this make the load on the amp .5ohm?

I am actually thinking of going with the 4ohm wiring.. I think if I run the two subs at 4ohm then it would be 2ohm load on the amp, correct me if im wrong though.

you're making it too complicated.

If you wire your subs' coils in parallel on each channel that's 1 ohm stereo.

The other option would be to bridge the amp and wire the subs together series/parallel for a 2 ohm MONO load on the amp, which has the same effect on the amp as 1 ohm stereo.

The only other possible scenario would be - amp bridged, all 4 coils parallel - that would produce a 1/2 ohm MONO load on the amp and it shouldn't even turn on if you try that.

Ok, thanks a lot lol, the manuals included with the amp and subs are not nearly enough knowledge to help a first time installer, im glad I can ask here =)

Thanks again,

Lurius
