Wiring subs

I have two Polk DXI 10" subs to be powered by 1 channel of a BA gta 1105 amp. Amp can run 400 w @ 2 ohms. The speakers can be wired at 2 ohms using a single voice coil on each. What do I give up with only running one voice coil?

from what i can find online,because iv never done from expierence,that you can indeed run a dvc with only using on coil.downside is your power handeling will be nearly cut in half.but they say to short the coil you are not using by running the positive to the negitive of the same coil. but not sure how that would play out if that coil is fried.if i come across any other info i will let you know.

you should probably hook them both up to a mulitmeter just to make sure that the other coil is reading right ohms and might as well check the good sub just to be sure.

I contacted Polk and they said that dual coil speakers should not be run with a single coil wired.

Looks like you'll only be able to run one of them, or you could sell em' and get the svc versions.

Shoot! I saw that a couple days ago but went to the site yesterday to check it out but missed the fine print. So instead I bought a couple Bravox 10" from Parts Express. Would have liked to save the money, but I guess the Bravox are a better speaker.

So this brings up another issue. I built the vented box per Polk specs (1.2ft3). Bravox wants a larger box, 1.4 ft^3. I can still make the box slightly larger, but not that large. Plugging the box size into Torres Calculator results in a box frequency of 30 Hz. Does this sound reasonable?
