Wiring subs for 500wats rms

Ok so let me start off by saying im a total noob at car audio. I've been doing some research (to the best of my ability) to find out what kind of sub, amp, and wiring i should get done for my future system. So lets get this started.

The subwoofer: I have my mind set on an just getting one alpine type r 12'', more specifically the alpine swr-12d2(2ohms)/12d4(4ohms)or the swr-1223d(2ohms)/1243d(4ohms). i want to wire the setup so 500 watts rms power is being pushed out (does that make sense?)

The amp: Alpine mrp-m500. The description says 300 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms). I know ohms is resistance but i don't understand how i should wire it at 4 ohms or 2 ohms. If i get the 12d4 can i wire it at 2 ohms so 500 watts is being pushed?

So my question is this, which combination of these will put out 500watts? Like i said, i've done some research and i'm comfortable with getting either model of the subs i just need to know if i need to get the 2ohm or 4ohm subs and how to wire it for 500 watts rms to be pushed out. (I.E) Will the 12d4 wired at 2 ohms push out 500watts of power?

Thank you for your time reading this and answering. Some of you might be frustrated reading this (cause it probably doesn't make sense) but like i said, im a total noob at car audio.
