Wiring Questons

I'm getting two DVC subs that are 4 ohms per coil. I'm looking to achieve a 4 ohm load overall between the two subs. Would it be better to:

1. Wire the voice coils in series to get 8 ohms per sub, then wire the subs in parallel to drop the load to 4 ohms?

2. Or wire the voice coils in parallel to the get 2 ohms per sub, then wire the subs in series to bring the load up to 4 ohms?

Thanks!

i do not think it will make any difference, as your amp will see a 4ohm load regardless. i'd do whatever is the easiest for you. hopefully others will weigh in too

Thanks for replying! I know that the amp will see a 4 ohm load either way, but JL's wiring guide that has been linked to on here has mentioned to not link DVC sub drivers in series...I dunno why.

My preference is your option (1), wiring each sub in series. My reason for that is that if any wire comes loose the sub will just stop working. With them in parallel it's possible to lose the connection to one coil and it won't be as obvious that something is wrong.

Edit: If JL says otherwise, do you have that link?

Might as well throw in another question while I'm at it.... If I plan on running the subs at 400W RMS do I need to supply the circuit with 800W? Or is this dependent on which way I wire the subs?

Physics class is coming back to haunt me.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

Here's a quote from that JL link:

Please note that when wiring multiple drivers it is recommended that series connections between drivers be avoided at all costs. This does not include series connections made between voice coils on the same driver.
Which says wiring each VC in series then paralleling the pair is the way to go. I would guess that the impedances of the 2 coils on one driver are probably better matched than the impedances between subs. In series they might not share equally.
